Ditto. And it's not like there were that many good songs in 1988 either.

    39: TENDER LOVE - FORCE M.D.'S

31: ANOTHER NIGHT - ARETHA FRANKLIN

Thought this was Tina Turner at first.

    16: RUSSIANS - STING

Sting: "a friend of mine, who was doing research at Columbia University in New York, had a computer system sophisticated enough to intercept the Soviet's TV signal from their satellite above the North Pole. On a Saturday night in New York City we could watch Sunday morning programs for the kids in Russia. The shows seemed thoughtful and sweet, and I suddenly felt the need to state something obvious in the face of all this rhetoric: Russians love their children just as we do."

#63 Chicago Bears Shufflin' Crew "The Super Bowl Shuffle"

A bunch of football players pretending to be the Sugar Hill Gang. It's a train wreck.

It got played enough but mostly on news shows. I guess other than the reporters, nobody actually wanted to hear it.

Absolutely no surprises this week on the bottom 60.

36: GOODBYE IS FOREVER - ARCADIA

When I first heard this song, I thought it was a half hearted effort by Duran Duran. A horrible song where they must have just came off a weekend of heavy drugs and partying, and decided it was a good idea to record a song.

This I saw it was from the band Arcadia. I thought they must have been some Duran Duran. Wannabes.

    Goodbye Is Forever - Wikipedia

Nope. Arcadia is an offshoot of Duran Duran.

"Goodbye Is Forever" is the second single released by the Duran Duran offshoot band, Arcadia.

Stick to what you do best. And lay off the drugs.

I don't remember this song. Probably because the radio was always playing Saucedio

You hadn't heard Dokken since '86?

I remembering hearing it a LOT back then. It was on MTV a lot and the radio too.

@HecticArt I hadn't heard the songs (not the bands) since '86. Though I must say I haven't heard a lot of Dokken since '86. I've probably only heard "Alone Again" and "Dream Warriors" a few times each over the last 30 years.

@MadisonRadio1 I remember "Russians" primarily from MTV when they had it in regular rotation for a little while. If I had not watched MTV for those 4 or 5 months, I probably wouldn't have heard it much back then either.

@semipenguin I recently wrote the band bio for Arcadia at genius.com. If you want a Cliff Notes version of their entire story (a four-minute read), here's the link: Arcadia Lyrics, Songs, and Albums | Genius

Good read. I love this part ...

Taylor, who had participated in both splinter groups,
    shared in 2001:

I did a lot in Arcadia, and a little bit in The Power Station. Was it cocaine-fuelled? Yeah. It was the two ends of the band really, wasn’t it? You had the arty end and the rock end. A kind of parting of the waves. I think Arcadia has stood the test of time better, maybe. The feeling was that The Power Station was more successful at the time. It was a bigger commercial success. Arcadia was probably cooler.

Heard that countdown on the road yesterday. Very enjoyable although listening to some of the lower ranking songs my wife asked if it was the countdown of songs we had never heard before.

    40. DON’T LET GO - WANG CHUNG

I always thought of "Dance Hall Days" as their first hit. Guess not.

    37. HELLO – LIONEL RICHIE

#54 Motley Crue "Looks That Kill"

Big teased hair, makeup, lipstick. The 13 year old me saw this is as totally badass.

#78 Bette Midler "Beast Of Burden"

Still remember the video, featuring Mick. "I sing your song better than anyone!" "Well, almost anyone." And that ridiculous ending...

#85 Andy Fraser "Do You Love Me"

Yes it's THAT "Do You Love Me" (now that I can dance). But what a totally bizarre take on it. And the video..??

#89 Billy Rankin "Baby Come Back"

The hook sounds familiar, but I can't tell if I knew it back in '84 or if it's just really similar to another song I know.

#91 Midnight Star "No Parking (On The Dance Floor)"

Music sounds like "Let It Whip". Vocalist sounds like "Word Up". Band looks like Ready For The World.

    Won't make the top 40
#44 Rolling Stones "She Was Hot"
    #48 Adam Ant "Strip"
#54 Motley Crue "Looks That Kill"
#62 TG Sheppard/Clint Eastwood "Make My Day"

#66 BE Taylor Group "Vitamin L"
#68 Jeffrey Osborne "We're Going All The Way"
    #70 Thomas Dolby "Hyperactive"
#71 Roger Daltry "Walking In My Sleep"
    #72 Eddie Money "Club Michelle"
#73 April Wine "This Could Be The Right One"
#75 Patti LaBelle "If Only You Knew"
#78 Bette Midler "Beast Of Burden"

John Lennon wrote Nobody Told Me in 1976 and recorded it in 1980, intending it for his and Yoko's Double Fantasy album. John decided to leave it off the album and allow Ringo to record the song. John's recording was finally released in 1984 on Milk & Honey. Most of the songs on that album were demos recorded on cassette but Nobody Told Me was recorded in a studio. John recorded ten takes, each with his voice on a separate track. Ringo would have added his own vocals to the instrumental track and included the song on his 1981 Stop & Smell The Roses album but after John was murdered, Ringo decided against recording the song.

Here is one of the alternate versions of Nobody Told Me:
