It's a long 162-game season, so to combat boredom, I thought this might be fun to try. I'll throw out a few trivia questions each week, and you guys can do your best to try and answer.


To start off, I'll give out two questions....


1. Who were the oldest and youngest pitchers in the modern era to pitch perfect games? And how old were they?


2. In the last 20 years, this feat has been accomplished five times, as shown below. What is the feat, and who is the player left blank?

Unless I know it off the top of my head I won't be able to answer these type of questions.

I would guess Doc Ellis as the youngest....26....the oldest would be Randy Johnson at 35.

I would guess the second question as the World Series MVP, but for the life of me I cannot remember who won it in 2003...I'll go with Josh Beckett as a stab in the dark.

You guys got the missing player right with Josh Beckett, but not the accomplishment. Hint...it has something to do with pitching in the World Series.

I am going to guess that Tom Browning who pitched a perfect game in 1988 may be the youngest. He was around 27 years old.

Shutout in World Series game? I know Curt did it agains the Jays in Game 5 in 1993. Perhaps complete game shutout?

Nicely done. A World Series complete game shutout (CGSO) has been pitched five times since 1989, by the five players listed above. Josh Beckett's for the Florida Marlins in the '03 Series is the most recent.

Still looking for the youngest player to throw a perfect game (in the modern era). Then I'll try and post a new question...

I wanted to say Mattingly, but he tailed off late in the 80's I think. I'm sure I'm overlooking someone.

Good guess on Murphy. He was #2 in the Majors for most RBI's in the 1980's.

CLUE: He played mostly in the American League that decade. In 1989 he was in the National League.

I know Bonds would lead in home runs and walks, but strikeouts as well? That's a kooky stat, how in the hell is that possible?
