I have to go out for field training for a few weeks and so I'm thinking about picking up a little mp3 video player that I can use to watch movies. Any suggestions on a good one?

Isn't this your everyday SmartPhone these days?

I'm not sure if my blackberry can handle these files or not. Also, the battery life kind of sucks. I might need to check on that though.

ipod touch, no question. microsoft Zune also seems to be very good, but I've never used it. I generally dont watch videos on it, except for when I travel but it works great for that as well.

Not sure about BlackBerry. Their forte seems to be e-mail. I have seen it in some of the Android demos and have seen it listed in the iPhone feature list.

I just looked at the Zune at Best Buy but it's like $200. Not sure I would actually get enough use out of it to make it worth while.

thats why I got the ipod touch. the price difference wasn't enough to make me want to get the Zune. i use my ipod all day every day and love it (although on my new assignment I won't be able to bring it or my cell phone with me for most of the day, which sucks BIG TIME).

And the iPod touch makes a great little PDA, too.

I just tested it out, and my BBerry plays Xvid, AVI and MPeg4 so I think I'm good to go. I'll just use my blackberry rather then spend another $200. Tonight I'll test out the battery life to be sure. If I can get 4-5 hours, I'll be MORE than happy.

ha ha ha... probably right. I'll try it for a few hours tonight before heading to the field. And I will definitely be bringing books. I wanted this for when I can't turn a light on because we're in WWII bay type bunks. You can't hit a light when 50 other guys are sleeping next to you. But I can hide under my cover with a bberry.

Just how small do the midgets look in a porn on a BlackBerry screen? ? ? ?

you could get one of those little clip on book lights and hide under the covers with that. i like the ipod classic just cause of how much room you have to load everything.

So I put like 12 episodes of South Park on my blackberry last night and then kept them playing pretty much all night. I was shocked that after about 5-6 hours of playing, my battery was still at 50%!! Much, much better than I had anticipated!

Since I killed this thread, I'll restart it. I'm considering getting my kids (age 5) a small portable video player to take on long trips. Looking at something small, like a 2" screen, in the $50 range, that can hold 6-8 hours of video. I want to rip some of their copyrighted DVD movies like Cars and Star Wars to WMV or another common format--not sure how that impact my choices, if at all. Choices look like Creative Labs, Sansa, Coby...any suggestions?
