I'd like to go back to our original rule--it takes a motion (by way of the post) and a second for a person to be declared a celebrity. In extreme cases (Osama bin Laden), HecticArt can make a poll.

To me, if he made the news in some measurable way, like being an activist, he's famous. If a blogger like Matt Drudge croaked would he be here? How about that photographer from 'Restrepo' that lost his life in Libya? He's famous for something, in this case, activism, much like Michael Moore is famous for activism, if Michael Moore dies tomorrow, he's going here.

I beg to differ - Matt Drudge and Michael Moore have much longer time in the public eye, which helps build up fame. If I ask anyone 5 years from now who those other 2 fellas are, chances are the answer is "Who?"

The gentleman from Syria, while certainly brave and having done something quite impressive, doesn't quite meet what I would consider "famous" / "celebrity". They may have made the news for a short time, but I'm not sure that qualifies. Lots of people make news and don't get labeled "celebrity".

And a quick edit to say that Drudge is probably barely skirting "celebrity"... he should probably fall on the douche list :)
