Here's why Subway could close another 500 restaurants

OK, so Subway is not going out of business, just closing a few US locations. What really surprised me was this:

"The company has 44,000 locations globally - more than any other retailer... US store count at nearly 27,000 as of 2016, compared to 17,500 for Yum Brands - which runs Pizza Hut, Taco Bell and KFC - and the 14,000 locations for McDonald's."

I find it surprising that Subway is #1, and has so many more US locations than McDonalds.

Their overhead is MUCH lower than Mc D's.

Because they don't actually cook anything. I never thought of that before. I just know there's nothing actually "fresh" in Subway, except for the attitude of the "sandwich artists".

They cook that bread. Other than that it's just making a sandwich. A very bland sandwich. A blandwich.

Less attitude than a Starbucks Barista.

I find most of the employees at any regular Starbucks (stand-alone, not one in another store, or mall, or airport) to be the nicest, friendliest people.

Never said they weren't nice. Just with attitude.

Subway pretty much only has the bread oven, a refrigerator, and the toaster oven on the counter.
Mc D's has the whole cook-line with the fryers, griddle, and exhaust hoods. Much more expensive to set up. Most of them are free-standing buildings, and when you add the drive-thru and about and about 6 extra employees per shift, it's a lot of start-up and daily overhead.

A Subway store can pretty much pack up in the back of a pickup truck and open up in any strip mall the next day.

And can, and usually is, run by 1 employee.

What a bunch of loser stores.

If I'm in a mall, I'll go into Foot Locker to see what's new or try something for fit. Between the blasting house music and the annoying salespeople -
"Are you looking for something in particular?"
    "Sneakers."
"Are you looking for yourself or someone else?"
    "Fuk-off. I'm outta here."

Someone wrote that Barnes & Noble is more like a public library with coffee, than a store that gets you to buy anything.

How many vitamin stores do we need?

Staples, Office Depot, Office Max - overpriced, limited selection, obsolete. $24.99 for a USB cable? I'll take ten.

Do you have a rewards card?

Would you like the protection plan with that?

Would you like a Mocha Cappuccino for $9 more?

It's going to suck when Amazon drives them all out of business. Amazon will jack up prices, make you pay more to return stuff and use its position to block competition from newcomers.

In the future you buy a Mocha Cappuccino from Amazon for $12 bucks and that won’t include shipping and handling.
