Can anyone tell me why the government shutdown & why last years budget doesn't just rollover into the next year if a new one hasn't been agreed upon? :scatch:

The house and senate and president must agree on a budget each year. If they don't they cannot fund the government so it shuts down.

There hasn't been a federal budget for a year. We've had a series of continuing resolutions since then, which all sought to avoid the current shutdown.

They'll come back before a default actually effects their pockets.
