There are some reports of the tribal land owners plan on breaking ground for Akimel 7 by end of the year.

Plus the lease for Rising FC playing on the property is up next year. The team tweeted while back ago, which I can't currently find the tweet. Basically saying this might be the last year on the property.

Last year I posted several obituaries of architects. I missed one and nobody told me. I know, I know, nobody wants to encourage me. Anyway, Italian architect Cristiano Toraldo di Francia died on July 30. He was a co-founder of the avant-garde architecture firm Superstudio. The other co-founder, Adolfo Natalini, died today. (I think his name sounds like one of Chico Marx's movie characters. At'sa good, eh?)

That portrait of him is awesome. How can he look so pissed off when he’s wearing a suit that cool?

He’s someone that I’m familiar with his sketches, but not really his built projects. His name never stuck in my head either.

Zane Grey was a minor-league baseball player and a dentist before becoming a writer of Western novels. I wonder which of those occupations netted him enough money to enable him to buy this 1907 Mediterranean-style mansion. But wait – there's more! Now it can be yours for only $3,995,000! Wooh!

This dystopian eyesore is supposed to be the new Ritz-Carlton, down the street from our hotel on Grace Bay in Providenciales (Turks & Caicos). It doesn't seem to be coming along well.

I don't think they are adding on to it. I'm guessing that side doesn't have any great views from the windows.

(Sung to the tune of Back In The Saddle Again)

Mister Hectic, here's a great deal
At eight million, it's really a steal
It is far from tawdry
It was owned by Gene Autry
You'd be back in the saddle for real

All things considered, it ain't that bad. The outside is pretty nice. Some of the interiors are rather dated, but that's an easy fix.

Why, he just paid several million pesos
To buy an estate in the Hills of Bever-leeee.
Let's hope it ain't community proper-teeee.
Someone will want half.
MacKenzie, that is.
The ex-wife.
She might come back now, y'hear?"

When Hectic chimes in, he'll say otherwise.
Otherwise.
Wood burns. Quite nicely.
Sorta yes, sorta no.
Steel loses it's strength at lower temperatures that wood. Wood perform very well in fires when it's larger dimensions.
While wood will start to burn, it forms a layer of charcoal that kind of protects it from completely burning too quickly.
This picture shows a burned down building where the wood survived better than the steel did.

Wood, especially with a proper sprinkler system, should be a great option for structural systems in tall buildings.

That said, I'm happy to let someone else build them for a while to see how they work out over time.
