I'm not a dead fan either, but man, it amazes me how they can go off on a riff and make a 1 hour song.
I've never been able to finish writing a 4 minute song.

While I like some long-form rock songs - Neil Young's Down By the River, Allman Brothers' Mountain Jam - I'm "meh" on jam bands, because I'm a student of real, bona-fide jazz, fusion, and bebop. After listening to improvisational music by Miles Davis, Pat Metheny, Chick Corea, John McLaughlin, Wayne Shorter, Joe Henderson, or Wynton Marsalis, it's hard to listen to the aimless meanderings of jam bands.

Today a Top 10: The Grateful Dead

Just kidding. Today's Top 10 is U2. This group would not have a top 10 or really be on my radar if they did not release "The Joshua Tree". I have marked the songs from that album with a *.

10. Bullet the Blue Sky *
9. Even Better Than the Real Thing
8. Sweetest Thing
7. Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses
6. I Will Follow
5. New Year's Day
4. Sunday Bloody Sunday
3. With Or Without You *
2. I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For *
1. Where the Streets Have No Name *
(The video/impromptu concert on the roof for this song is pretty cool)

I looked at my original top 5...

1. Love Is Blindness
2. One
3. Bullet The Blue Sky
4. All I Want Is You
5. With Or Without You

...and said "I don't feel like that anymore" (especially since I'm beyond sick of Joshua's big hits). So here's my new list:

1. I Will Follow
2. Bullet The Blue Sky
3. Love Is Blindness
4. Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses
5. Beautiful Day

"No Myth" (Michael Penn) is on my 500+, such a great song! And "I Love You Period" (Dan Baird) shoulda been a bigger hit, I love that one too.

Having "Drive" between "Summer Of '69" and "Fox On The Run", talk about your WAY UP, way down, WAY UP!

I was pretty shy, so I didn't have a lot of rejections -- because I didn't make the move often.

But I did get a girl I was dating pretty good for giving me the cold shoulder.

Me: Want to hang out Friday night?
Her: No, I'm busy
Me: How about Saturday?
Her: No, I think I have stuff to do
Me: Sunday?
Her: Um, probably not
Me: Oh okay, I guess I'll just see you next Tuesday then
Her: ?? Uh, ok, sure.
Her friend: *dies laughing*

Cassette AC is a collection of Bruce Springsteen and Queen songs

These cassettes were recorded in 1992 and you may be asking why they have so much 80s and 70s on them. Well, it would have been this time that I would have picked up the Greatest Hits CD from a lot of these artists on the bargain bin at the local CD stores. I used to spend an evening with my little list of songs I wanted going to the 3 big CD stores on Young Street and noting prices and then buying the ones I wanted. Good times.

Cassette AD Recorded 1992/12/12
Side 1
Rock and Roll Never Forgets - Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band
Magic Power - Triumph
Sweet Child O' Mine - Guns N' Roses
Tin Soldier - Streetheart
Twilight Zone - Golden Earring
Hungry Like the Wolf - Duran Duran
End of the Line - The Traveling Wilburys
Hippy Hippy Shake - The Georgia Satellites
Rave On - John Mellencamp
Roses & Chrome - Tease
Teenage Rage - Streetheart

Side 2
This Beat Goes On / Switching to Glide - The Kings
The Kid Is Hot Tonight - Loverboy
I Am Here - The Grapes of Wrath
Touch of Grey - Grateful Dead
Part of Me, Part of You - Glen Frey
She Ain't Pretty - The Northern Pikes
Rock 'N' Roll Is King - Electric Light Orchestra
She Controls Me - Strange Advance
The Safety Dance - Men Without Hats
Citizen Cain - Tom Cochrane & Red Rider

Extras:
(Wish I Could Fly Like) Superman - The Kinks
Night Moves - Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band
Handle With Care - The Traveling Wilburys
Last Night - The Traveling Wilburys
