The CNN article I read said they were mostly doing it because as one company they would have a lot more power when negotiating with the cable providers. Together those channels are responsible for (an astonishingly high) 20% of cable viewership.

Selling CNN? That's interesting.

What are the DOJ laws about merger requirements? Can they just make whatever conditions they want and impose them on the two merging companies? That sounds wild but I have no idea.

They already own Touchstone, so what's the f'in difference?
I didn't know Disney owns Touchstone Pictures and probably most people either. Yes they have released R rated movies. But not under the name Walt Disney Studios. So whenever Disney gets hold of the Fox naming rights, then they will continue there tradition of R rated. But not under the name Walt Disney Studios.

Right, it'll still say Fox on the opening credits. Most movies list 3 or 4 subsidiary production companies.
