Today, we have announced a pioneering new technology developed by Global, that will now allow drivers' radios to automatically switch between different local radio stations that are part of the same network as they travel around the country."

    Hybrid Radio
Combining broadcast and the internet - making radio better

RadioDNS provides the link between what you're broadcasting over FM, DAB, HD Radio (or other broadcast platforms), and what you can also provide over an internet connection.

    Anyone seen it in action?

Norway, as the first country in the world, will begin to switch off FM in January 2017. The first region to shut down is Nordland and only the national broadcasters NRK, P4 and Radio Norge. Local stations will continue broadcasting on FM until at least 2021, but national channels will only be available on DAB+.

Norway has a large fishing industry, and they, like everyone else, listen to the radio. Radio reception can be a matter of ensuring the safety of the crew: few small fishing boats have internet access, and NRK produces a weather radio station, NRK Vær, specifically made for those who work at sea. Any switch-off of FM transmissions needs to consider all radio users — even those in fishing boats off the coast.
