I'm sure she knows what she's doing. She's got enough handlers that have their eyes on getting a cut of her money, that I don't think she would be able to pass on the $5m if there weren't much more to be made later.

Personally, I'd tell a good number of people what I really think, and retire with the 5.

Pistol Dueling in the Olympics, 1906. The shooters used wax bullets and no gun powder.

that could be. i still think its dumb to pass up a guaranteed 5 when there is no certainty she will still be so good in 4 years.

Both LA Games didn't have all the Olympic athletes that they should have had, due to 1) The Great Depression, and 2) East Block countries boycotting

1932 Summer Olympics - Wikipedia

The 1932 Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the X Olympiad, was a major worldwide multi-athletic event which was celebrated in 1932 in Los Angeles, California, United States. No other cities made a bid to host these Olympics. Held during the worldwide Great Depression, many nations and athletes were unable to pay for the trip to Los Angeles. Fewer than half the participants of the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam returned to compete in 1932. Even U.S. President Herbert Hoover skipped the event.

1984 Summer Olympics - Wikipedia

The 1984 Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the XXIII Olympiad, was an international multi-sport event held in Los Angeles, California, United States in 1984. When Tehran, the only other interested city on the international level, declined to bid due to the concurrent Iranian political and social changes, the IOC awarded Los Angeles the Games by default. This was the second occasion Los Angeles hosted the games, the first being in 1932.

In response to the American-led boycott of the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow, 14 Eastern Bloc countries, including the Soviet Union, Cuba and East Germany, boycotted the Games; only Romania and Yugoslavia elected to attend. For differing reasons, Iran and Libyaalso boycotted. Although a boycott led by the Soviet Union depleted the field in certain sports, 140 National Olympic Committees took part, which was a record at the time.[2] The USSR announced its intention not to participate on May 8, 1984, citing security concerns and "chauvinistic sentiments and an anti-Soviet hysteria being whipped up in the United States."[3] Boycotting countries organized another large event in June–September 1984, called the Friendship Games; some participating countries from the Olympics sent reserve teams to the Friendship Games, which mostly avoided overlap with the Olympic Games' schedule (the exception was the Equestrian Show Jumping event in Sopot, Poland). Representatives of the organizing countries, the Soviets in particular, underlined it was "not held to replace the Olympics". Elite athletes from the U.S. and USSR would not directly compete again until the 1986 Goodwill Games in Moscow, organized in response to the boycotts.

Paris hasn't had the Olympics since 1924, and they had already bid for 2024 a while back.

LA had it back in 1932 and 1984. They will have 2028, if we haven't blown ourselves up by then
As mention before L.A. will have plenty of facilities in use or ready to be built like they will have a new football stadium ready by 2020, so in 8 years they can get the coliseum ready for the big games again. Plus the new expansion MLS LAFC stadium will be next to it. Who knows a decade from now Dodgers, Angels, Ducks could renovate or build new facilities.
