I also very quickly avoided the political forums particularly on XMFAN. They were brutal.
Haha, when I discovered that 98 came here from there, I looked over all the nasty political threads he was involved with. There seemed to be 2 Neanderthals in particular that were constant thorns in his side.
Here's some DRC trivia: I joined this site in Feb 2009, but only posted in the Howard Stern and Music forums until August 2013.
I forgot to elaborate on this. At the time that I started my Sirius subs and joined SBS, I was already involved in two other forums; BMW (Bimmerpost) and AVS (Audio/video sciences). Each of those had a Studio Lounge-like forum (complete with politics), where I would shoot the shit, and sometimes get into trouble. My "discovery" of the Studio Lounge here probably coincided with getting banned from the Bimmerpost Politics forum. And just like here, they shut-down that forum in 2018 or so.

Even on the AVS forum, people were getting banned, if you can believe it. I participated in 2 areas; the Video one (TVs and such), and the 2-Channel Audio one (stereo equipment - not home theater). There were people on the Audio forum who had been members for years, but whose only purpose was to shoot-down any discussion of some things sounding better than other things. It was as if they were being paid-off by the staff of Stereo Review magazine to repeat their mantra that everything sounds the same. My position was somewhere in the middle between the bullies and the wack-jobs. And so I would get into arguments with both extremes, but mostly the bullies. All I can say is that I'm glad to have left that part of my life behind. I think I last visited that site a dozen years ago, just to check something about my TV.

Mister scotch, one of those Neanderthals loved to quote my posts but alter them so it appeared I was making all kinds of nasty, self-deprecating statements. The other Neanderthal said my posts on the political forum had "ruined" XMFan and he blamed me for Ryan shutting the site down. Uh, no, Ryan shut it down because he could no longer afford the $1,500 monthly cost of the server and he didn't want to ask XMFan members to help pay the cost.

Shutting down the political talk was something we should have done much sooner.
We lost a lot of good members from all of the BS that oozed out of that part of the forum.

That was played as a "Sirius CoffeeHouse Blend" or something on Coffee House waaay back in the Stiletto days. I recorded it and thought it was lost forever because the way it was listed on the Stiletto made me think the band had gone in and done a special version just for Sirius.

I've been in an out of Sirius for about as long as most of the OG posters around here, I was rather upset when the merger happened and we lost the original XM run by Lee Abrams and Eric Logan. After a while got on with Apple Music and stayed with it through it's maturity to what it is now, and came back to Sirius on the streaming side, and will likely stay there indefinitely. Terrestrial Radio sucks around here, and Sirius makes a nice accompaniment to Apple Music, so I'm not at a loss for something to listen to between the two of them.

The Hi-Pitch Craptacular and the Thanksgiving with the Christys were two of the first things I remember listening to.

There were definitely a few Tissue Times in there as well.

I also remember a show called "Talk Sex with Dr. Sue Johansen" and it was hysterical hearing her talk about sex at however old she was in 2005. She was definitely a good warm-up act for 1/9/06...well, her and then they had Maxim Radio, eventually replaced with Playboy Radio.

Timeline:
August 31st, 2005. Howard Stern aired on my affiliate. After the show, the local station's owner came on and teased "an announcement about the future of THSS following tomorrow's show."

September 1st. The show aired. After the show, there was an announcement about how the FCC Notice of Apparent Liability caught up to them and they were pulling the show effective immediately. The concerning issue was Jack Thompson hearing the "dildo golf" segment in Florida and getting his underwear in a knot.

September 2. Howard had been off all week. We had a show with the GM/owner and two long-time DJs about the state of the FCC, censorship, etc.

September 5. Labor Day. I was on vacation all week. Howard returned live on Tuesday.

September 6. Our local affiliate started a local morning show with three people.

Monday, September 12. On or about this day? I bought my first Sirius radio and never looked back.
