Not all 5-7 and 6-6 teams are created equal. A 5-7 team from the B1G or SEC is probably a lot better than a 6-6 team from the Sunbelt or Mountain West. Last year 5-7 Nebraska beat UCLA in the Foster Farms bowl, Nebraska was clearly better than their record indicated.

Maybe they should move the semi's to Christmas weekend. That way they can continue having the New Year bowl games

I guess UCLA & Ohio St were #1 & #2. They could have played each other at the Rose Bowl that year, but since UCLA had gone the year before, they couldn't go that year.
