Wow, looking back we've made this exact thread every year since 2016 and before that different variations of this thread title.

Anyway a new Netflix show came out today called Fool Me Once that I'm watching now. Apparently it's a Harlan Coben book about this ex military woman who witnesses her husband get murdered but then a few months later he's caught on her nanny cam visiting their kid. I'm only on s01e01 so we'll see how it goes. So far it seems a bit more geared to the ladies but I'm digging it.

Well, here's to a happy new year of movies and TV.

Interesting premise. I can see it being an interesting movie. But a series? I would lose interest in the premise within a couple episodes.

When I was at the movie theater the other day, I saw a bunch of trailers for movies coming out in 2024. In a depressing trend, at least 4 of them were based on apocalyptic themes.

2 were sequels; a new Mad Max and Planet of the Apes. But the others were more disturbing. "I.S.S." puts Russians and Americans on a space station, while they watch the Earth get destroyed by a nuclear war. But the most disturbing was Civil War, which has the next US President deploying the military against half the country, and using armed militia to round-up or kill the opposition. It put our worst fears onto film. And I thought we were going to the movies to escape reality.

ISS is a January release so if trends hold it will be shit cause that's where all the bad movies get dumped. Civil War looks good with that dude from Breaking Bad and Ron Swanson. Plus it's A24, they usually do good stuff. So long as they can avoid making it too overtly connected to real life current politics.

Fury Road was amazing so if this new one is half as good it will still be worth a trip to the theater.

Here are the top 200 movies released in January, ranked by how much they grossed during their opening weekend. Teri and I saw only five of them: Snow Dogs, Hotel For Dogs, Tooth Fairy, 27 Dresses and Mr. Holland's Opus. I bought A Man Called Otto in March 2023. It was released on DVD and Blu-ray just two months after opening in theaters.

I have seen the promo for ISS several times on social media. They seem to be really selling it. I didn't realize it was in theatres. Thought it was an Netflix thing or some other streaming platform. My only thought is you are trapped on a space station. There is no longer any possibility of getting supplies delivered or escape. You are dead. What does it matter who owns the coffin?

I liked "A Man Called Otto" a lot too despite it's parallels with my own life.

Well the other thing that happens in the trailer is the Russians and Americans try to sabotage each other, in order to take over the ISS. So there's a fight for survival. It's just a trailer, so yeah, it didn't really make sense.

Went to see the "Iron Claw" tonight. My son is a huge wrestling fan so wanted to see it. What surprised me that it was a reasonably good movie. It was a tragedy (I think that is the proper classification based upon my memories of high school english) that was set around wrestling. I would not say it was a great movie but it was a good one. We enjoyed it.

I thought I had become the old guy who couldn’t figure out the remote control, but it appears maybe not. I see others complaining on social media.

The Golden Globes have this constant, annoying voice narration.

“Robert Downey Jr takes of his glasses”
“The host motions towards Meryl Streep”
“Selena Gomes smiles”

I switched to Dolphins Bills game instead.

I'm watching it now, and although the host and much of the show is annoying, I'm not getting that narration issue. Perhaps it depends on where you're getting it from.

You're not the only one apparently, although I'm not sure if this is indicative of how many people are watching Football, or how FEW people are still watching linear television.

Also noticing of the TV categories in the Golden Globes, almost NO network shows nominated for anything. All streamers!

My parents are encountering this too, maybe it’s from the cable provider, who knows.
Yes, streaming services are winning big.

I think this is the greatest episode of TV I've ever seen in my entire life. It has everything, it has Zombies, It has people shooting each other with guns and also it has a super cute love story Abt lonely people coming together . it's delightful how they get old together and then they die together after being in love for like 30 years. It's so fucking sweet.

And they do it all in like 50 minutes. Got to give those writers credit.

I noticed HBO Max has Lois and Clark. I remember loving that show when I was a kid.

Well it came out in 1993. I was 9. I'm 45 mins into the pilot and I can see how a 9 year old me would think it was the best and so cool how adult I was to like it back then. That's to say it's not a very good show. It's super corny.

But that's not what I'm here to talk about. Lois aka young Terri Hatcher was such a fox. I'm sure that's a big reason 9 year old me loved it. A 29 year old Hatcher and a dude who can fly?.....that's everything in a young boy's dreams.

We’ve been watching the Ted mini-series on whatever.
It‘s a lot better than I thought it would be.
Looking forward to seeing the rest of em.
