On Saturday night, HBO premiered the 2 part documentary "Wise Guy David Chase and The Sopranos", which I thought was excellent. If you loved The Sopranos, you'll find this to be very interesting. Lots of behind-the-scenes stuff, including auditions for all the main cast members. They showed the many people who didn't get picked, and how Chase came across Steven van Zandt.

I did feel somewhat sad by the end, as they spent some time talking about the physical and emotional demands on James Gandolfini, and how that likely (IMO) contributed to his eventual downward spiral.

I like Aaron Sorkin. A few years back I watched the entirety of the West Wing. And I like that he is pretty much unabashed with his political views. He's clearly very left-leaning but he is also a very good TV writer who can make a political drama incredibly entertaining. Even if you disagree with the slightly altered history that he presents in his shows.

Like I said I like Aaron Sorkin but I don't think there is anybody else in the entire world who likes Aaron Sorkin more than Aaron Sorkin. Like the dude jerks himself off with his witty repartee. And most of it hits and it's really good and funny smart but I can see him in a writer's room coming up with his quick-witted dialogue and thinking he's the bee's knees.

Anyway, I'm going on this rant because I'm watching the TV show from 2012 on HBO called The newsroom with Jeff Daniels and the dude from law and order and it's really good, but sometimes it's a bit much with the fast-paced...I'm smarter than you with my jokes...dialogue.

We were talking in another thread about how Mr. Bean and Adam Sandler is like really low brow comedy. Sorkin shows are the opposite but pompous about it. I'm sure Aaron Sorkin thinks of himself as a Shakespearean midsummer night's dream type comedy writer.

As we all know, grandiose statements are something we try to refrain from as a group here at DRC.

Anyway, I'm 10 minutes into the penguin on HBO Max and I'm pretty sure it's the greatest Batman thing I've seen since The dark Knight and The dark Knight is probably my favorite movie of all time.

The joker was good and the Batman movie with the dude from Twilight was not good even though I tried to watch it two times because people said it was good but it's not good.

This is good and better than the joker movie already and I'm literally at the 10 minute 59 second Mark. I'm already hooked.

I thought that Penguin was good. I like that it's of the universe, but not stereotypical for the genre. (A no spoilers description......)
