Radio Insight tweeted today that SiriusXM dumps air personalities on "50s on 5" and "90s on 9" channels.
Tom Taylor NowSiriusXM, reporting a strong Q4 tomorrow, zaps the jocks on two music channels.
The “50s on 5†and “90s on 9†channels will henceforth be jockless, says DCRTV. It’s hard to imagine that the expense of these jocks - presumably part-timers who may’ve cut the breaks from their own homes – was significantly impacting the bottom line. SiriusXM reports its Q4 and full-year numbers Tuesday morning, but we know that in the third quarter, it did $961 million in revenue while incurring $72.3 million in costs for “programming and content.†And these reported cuts on the 50s and 90s channels come as SiriusXM CEO Jim Meyer and president Scott Greenstein are smiling over a booming new-auto market that puts them into more and more vehicles. We know from a pre-announcement (January 8 NOW) that Sirius out-performed its guidance for net subscriber growth, ending 2013 with 25,560,000 subscribers. What we don’t know is what kind of cuts new majority-owner Liberty Media’s been asking out of management. One of the quieter stories of the post-merger era for Sirius and XM is how they’ve been cutting talent costs. Friday night’s Howard Stern Birthday Bash wasn’t cheap, and as this NOW Newsletter said last week, it was partly intended to show Howard some love ahead of renewal talks. But like some former colleagues at the 50s and 90s channels – he may find less love than before.
'90s on 9 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopediaThe channel is commercial-free, and as of February 3, 2014, jockless, when both Jo Jo Morales and KT Harris were let go in a cost-cutting move.
Good news & Bad news:If they drop Cool Bobby B, I'll be extremely disappointed.
