You can't fool me, IRBS. You got that information from Wikipedia. Two Tommy Tutone singles were missing. I just added them to the page – but only the A-sides. Here are more details:

Cheap Date/Dancing Girl (Columbia 11333, July 1980)
Girl In The Back Seat/Am I Supposed To Lie (Columbia 11353, August 1980)
Guilty. I wanted to include any other songs other than the 2 I knew about (1 before this weekend).

Nothing to feel guilty about. I use Wikipedia a lot, too. I also edit and/or add to discographies when I find mistakes or omissions – which is quite often. Here is Cheap Date, written by David Gilman and guitarist Jim Keller. (I can hear somebody yelling, "More cowbell!") Gilman and Keller also wrote Steal Away, which appeared on the Tommy Tutone 2 album.

JD Souther

#7 "You're Only Lonely"
#11 "Her Town Too" w/ James Taylor

He fronted Souther Hillman Furay Band who had one top 40 in 1974. Then as a solo artist, he had two top 40s. I think both songs are probably forgotten aside from niche channels like 70s on 7, 80s on 8, etc.?

I had forgotten about "You're Only Lonely".

Wikipedia says:

Souther hired Danny Kortchmar to play guitar, David Sanborn saxophone, and to help out with the harmony, Phil Everly, Jackson Browne, and three members of the Eagles (Frey, Felder, Henley).

So I assume it's JD?

Might be a contender for the "dude sounds like a lady" thread.

HOLY MACKEREL I CAN'T BELIEVE IT'S TAKEN THIS LONG TO REALIZE.....

Nine Inch Nails

#17 "The Day The World Went Away"
#31 "The Hand That Feeds"
#41 "Closer"
#46 "The Perfect Drug"
I am not a NiN fan but the one song I do recognize as theirs is "Closer". Maybe that should be in the Can't Believe It's Not a Top 40 thread.

Also, I assumed they had more chart hits.

NIN has had eight songs reach the top 10 of the Modern Rock/Alternative Songs chart. Four have hit #1. So kinda like Nirvana and Pink Floyd, a "not-pop-band" that crossed over to pop twice.
Yeah, it's only their poppiest songs that made the top 40. But they have a bunch of rock hits, like you said.
