We all had to go with layers and layers of clothing because our coats and stuff are not equipped for this. I got pajama pants under the jeans. I’m wondering what Northerners do.
For standard winter-wear, I just wear jeans with heavy socks and winter shoes. I often wear a t-shirt with a long-sleeve shirt over, which I can button or unbutton. And then a coat for outside. I have like 4 levels of coats, from light jackets to my Columbia ski jacket. We just did a walk with the dogs, and I added my ski gloves and ski hat and scarf. I also have the jacket hood. For just being outside, I have lighter gloves.

Mrs. Scotch does winter walks like every day. She has the flannel-lined jeans. I have the ski pants and bib, which I mostly reserve for skiing or sledding. One thing that's for sure: people in warm climates have thinner blood. Up here, if it breaks 40, we can walk around in almost nothing. In contrast, we were in Downtown Disney some years ago, and it was dipping into to low 60s and upper 50s. People were walking around in parkas like it was Antarctica.

Totally right about that, people dress for winter here when it’s 50s. Not so much me, because I handle the cold pretty well, but this cold snap was different.

I have a winter jacket for temps below 0c (32f). I also wear a toque. I just wear jeans on my legs. If my core and my head is warm, my legs don't bother me. I have gloves but only would wear them if outside a long time.

It's 54° outside right now and that's the point where it gets a bit uncomfortable for me to wear my usual khaki shorts and Polo. And if I stay outside for a while it's legit cold for me.

But I still don't have to turn on any heat so that's cool. It's 70° average inside the house right now and that is perfect. I keep my thermostat at 69 all year long because 69 is funny. Otherwise I'd probably just keep it at 70.

Oh Boo Fuckin' Hoo!

It was -8 when I walked the dog this morning. I would kill for 54 degrees right now.

-8 is insane.

Our Snowmageddon blizzard was 3 weeks ago and it was so flukey I still hear people talking about it most days.
If you haven’t seen someone in a while it’s an easy conversation piece…. hey how did you enjoy the snow?

After 5 days and the snow melted, it got warm and it’s been warm ever since. Some of the plants have started growing again.

We had about a 1/4" of ice last night (6.35 mm) and then about 2" of snow on top of that.

The walks were slick as hell, but the roads weren't too bad by the time I left this morning.

Usually happens late January, Mid-February or so. Then by the middle of March it'll be up in the 60's.

Cold weather hits different later in the year doesn't it. We got another hit of 30s and 40s, and it's like please go away.
Whereas 30s and 40s in November are like its about damn time lol. At least for us here after a miserable summer.

I can't fathom how you deal with a winter that lasts as long as it does for you guys up North.
