Billboard's Top 112 Songs Of Christmas countdown – a top 100 plus one song for each of the "Twelve Days Of Christmas" – can be heard online and on the SiriusXM app. Memo to Billboard: Adam Sandler's Thanksgiving Song is not a Christmas song. Doy! How is Bing Crosby's White Christmas, the biggest-selling single of all time, not number one? And what's up with all the songs by Justin Bieber, Michael Bublé and Pentatonix? Gayla Peevey's I Want A Hippoptamus For Christmas is #59 but the version inexplicably played during the countdown was recorded in 1961 by children's television stars Captain Kangaroo and Mr. Green Jeans (Bob Keeshan and Hugh Brannum).

Hallelujah by Pentatonix is not really a Christmas song. The song was written by – and first
recorded by – Leonard Cohen in 1984. Here are some of the lyrics:

Well, maybe there's a God above
But all I've ever learned from love
Was how to shoot somebody who outdrew ya
And it's not a cry that you hear at night
It's not somebody who has seen the Light
It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah

It's not a Christmas song.
It's not a Christian song.
It has been played as both. Sort of the same as people using "Every Breath You Take" as their wedding song.

All I Want For Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth by Spike Jones & His City Slickers with lead singer George Rock was number one for three weeks in December 1948 but did not make Billboard's list. Seven other number-one Chrsitmas songs failed to make the list:

Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer – Elmo & Patsy (1979)
I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus – Jimmy Boyd (1952)
Jingle Bells – Singing Dogs (1955)
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow! – Vaughn Monroe (1945)
Silent Night – Barbra Streisand (1966)
Step Into Christmas – Elton John (1983)
White Christmas – Andy Williams (1963)

Charles Brown's Merry Christmas Baby. Nat "King" Cole's Caroling Caroling and Elvis Presley's If Every Day Was Like Christmas also deserved to be on the list. But we got ten songs by Michael Bublé and seven songs by Pentatonix. Those two artists accounted for 15% of the songs!

The "chorus" on Bobby Helms' Jingle Bell Rock is the Anita Kerr Singers. They sang on dozens of big hits in the late 1950s and early 1960s including Abilene, Still, Detroit City, Dream Baby, Only The Lonely, After School. Fancy Pants, Our Lady Of Fatima, My Special Angel, Fortune Teller, Wolverton Mountain, Sea Of Heartbreak and Let's Think About Living. Anita Kerr died October 10, 2022. She was 94.
