It's weird the celebrity deaths that get me this is by far the biggest one. I mean this lady was girl knighted by Queen Elizabeth so she was a fucking Dame which is pretty cool. She also had Oscar's.

I just love Downton Abbey so much because it's like the stuffy British aristocracy but since it's a fictional show, they're also like an incredibly loving family. And no matter how stuck in their ways they are, they always find a way to be liberal enough to accept the differences of their various family members. It's basically what you wish the real aristocracy was, but can only actually exist in a work of fiction.

Blow after Dame Maggie Smith the next biggest name that really hit me when he died was Norm. I mean I've told you guys. I credit Howard Stern, Norm and Chris Rock shaping the sense of humor I have as an adult because I watched everything those three did from like middle school until now.

Then after that it's two guys none of you would even know if I didn't talk about them all the time. Tony Markellis the bassist for Trey's side project that Trey anastasio band or TAB.

And then before Tony it was Harris Whittles. Who was a comedian and comedy writer who wrote on Parks and rec And had a bunch of really fun cameos on that show. I knew him as a recurring guest on the podcast comedy bang bang and he was freaking hilarious.

Basically this is a whole bunch of me ranting to say that Dame Maggie Smith is on a list of four people I can remember since we've had this celebrity death thread that have actually made my day a little bit sadder when I found out they died. I mean I'm not happy when any celebrity dies and unless they were a Dallas cowboy but like it doesn't really affect my day. Like when Michael Jackson died I was like oh that's shocking or like when Kobe Bryant died. Same thing I was like oh that's a shock but it didn't affect my day at all. The four that I just listed actually have affected my day.

Smith played Violet Crawley, the Dowager Countess of Grantham, in 52 episodes of Downton Abbey, 2010-15, and in two Downton Abbey movies. She appeared in 62 other movies and TV movies including Hook, Clash Of The Titans, A Room With A View, Death On The Nile, Sister Act, Sister Act 2, The Secret Garden, The First Wives Club, The Prime Of Miss Jean Brodie, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and eight Harry Potter films.

In Hook, through the magic of makeup, 56-year-old Maggie Smith played 92-year-old "Granny Wendy."

While I respect that you hold Dame Maggie Smith in such reverence, she was 89. High time to go.
I get what you're saying man but age doesn't matter like dude my dad was 90 But it was still the worst loss I've ever felt in my entire life. Even though he lived an incredibly full Life and we would all be lucky to make it to 90 as healthy as he was when he died

I know a lot of my facebook friends are sorry to see her go. I myself, have never seen her or watched Downtown Abby. I am not happy she is dead just indifferent.
I tried both reading Harry Potter and watching the movies. I didn't make it more than 50 pages into the first book and I didn't make it past the second movie. I think I'm like just a few years too old to get the appeal of it. But now I kind of want to watch clips of her and those movies

I haven't read or seen one Harry Potter book or movie.

Based upon the resume 98 posted, I definitely have seen her but she did not stick out for me. I am in no way suggesting she should not have been seconded.

I'm not sure how some old actress dying compares to the loss of your own father, whom you actually had a closer relationship with, as he got very old.

Wish I could say the same. My wife read them as they came out and raved about them. I still wasn't tempted. We went and saw the first movie. Meh. We went and saw the second movie, the end was kinda cool but the rest was meh.

Now every other time I help my in-laws, the second half of one of those movies is up on the TV. Still zero interest.

Second. Interesting guy, Rhodes scholar. And possibly the most famous person who lived for a short while in my small town. He flew helicopters for a short time to the oil rigs off the coast before he became famous. They still tell stories that he lived in town temporarily.
