This was my thought several hours ago. I just realized it never got posted.

I'll second that. I wasn't a big fan, but he had a huge fan base, including many of the music reviewers, and people like John Mayer.

I read somewhere about 10 years ago that "Never My Love" by The Association was one of the most-played songs on radio in the history of radio. I think it was ranked #2 behind "Yesterday". I looked it up on YouTube and I'd never heard it - didn't recognize it at all.

They performed the hit on The Ed Sullivan Show, The Andy Williams Show, The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour, The Hollywood Palace, The Dean Martin Show, Dick Clark's American Bandstand, Hullabaloo, The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson, The Dick Cavett Show, The Joey Bishop Show, The Steve Allen Show, and a Carol Channing special.

In 1999, the song was recognized as the second most-played song in history, with performances of more than seven million, according to BMI. The number 2 rank on the Top 100 Songs of the Century, listing the most-played songs on American radio and television, placed "Never My Love" between the number 1 song "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'", written by Barry Mann, Phil Spector, and Cynthia Weil, and the number 3 song "Yesterday" by Lennon–McCartney. BMI estimated that the song had received, as of 1999, what amounted to about 40 years of continuous airplay in its 32 years.

Blue Swede, a Swedish septet whose annoying "ooga-chaka-ooga-ooga" remake of B.J. Thomas's Hooked On A Feeling went to number one in April 1974, reached #7 in October 1974 with an annoying "never-never-never-my-love" remake of Never My Love.

Marilyn McCoo & The 5th Dimension, backed by the Nat Brandwynne Orchestra, reached #12 in November 1971 with a live version of Never My Love recorded at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.
