so 'we' won't have to dig so much?
I'm not sure what you're implying. I did most of the digging, and Mrs. Scotch finished up. If the septic company shows up to pump, and you haven't dug the covers up, they leave.

I guess that some people are not going to dig them up beforehand, so when they schedule the appointment, they have to plan to have them find the covers and dig, which is an extra service. Or perhaps one would need to hire someone separately to do that ahead of time.

The guy who put in the riser tubes had to make the openings larger, so he did a bit of digging. But that's included in the price.

FWIW, my childhood was spent in the dense suburbia of the NYC metro area in NJ, where of course we had town water and sewage. And the first 2 years on my own were in semi-urban apartments or condos. But since 1986, I've only owned homes with private well and septic. So nearly 40 years of digging for septic covers becomes a way of life.

I was implying that there was only one person digging in context of we. You clarified shat she actually did some so my attempt at a quick joke given that, and my need to explain it, failed miserably.

I've told you guys this before but growing up I had like a really old style of septic tank. Like I have one right now and it's a lot like the picture you showed. It's got the two manholes and I get drainage field and all that I learned all that when it wasn't working and the guys had to come here all the time.

But anyway when I was a kid and this was like in my teenage years too so I'm not just remembering it as a small child... In both the houses I grew up in the septic tank was literally A really deep hole in the ground. Probably like 30 ft deep and like 4 ft wide. That's a very rough guess it may have been much different than that but it was super deep. Like just a very deep circular hole in the ground. The one I have now is like a cylinder kind of like a oil tank for your house or something like on its side just a bit under the ground.

I guess old houses were grandfathered in or something because not have met today's like environmental standards.

My septic company used to dig the hole. After about 15 years, they said "Make sure you dig the hole or it will be an extra charge". I was like "What? Me?" So now I dig too.
Yeah, they would have to find it too. If you've had it serviced by the same company several times, they'd probably have noted the location. But you can't have a new guy come and tell him he has to find it.
