Curved Monitors

The only monitor upgrade thread I could find was ancient, so I figured I'd go this route.

I've been working from home since March, & as far as I know it's permanent. I have my PC hooked up to a 24" Samsung TV via HDMI, & after looking at it all day then using it for the internet at night, I've been noticing my eyes are a little googly at the end of the day. So since I'm looking at this screen so much I figured it was time to finally upgrade to an actual monitor.

I went for a curved 32" Samsung monitor. Anyone ever use one of these curved screens? I admittedly just took a "what the hell" dive since I found a pretty good deal. And I'm hoping the bigger screen makes it easier to organize all the programs & spreadsheets I have to run at once ( I've adapted with my 24" screen, but it's still a pain ).

The "hoteling" area where I work has them, but they might be 38". So I've used them on occasion. I guess the image is fine, but the windows and apps don't fit across the whole thing, so it's underwhelming.

At home (and in my work office, which I don't use any more) I have a pair of HP 22" monitors, and that works well for me. I have my email, skype, phone, and toolbars on one, and the other is wide open for running programs in full screen. It's also nice for comparing documents, but I guess you can do that on your curved 32.

I have my 2 monitors joined at like a 120 degree angle, so I imagine the curve takes care of that.

Will do. The reviews on the curved screen concept in general seems kinda mixed, so we'll see.

When I used to go into the office I had a very similar set-up to what Scotch mentions above - a couple separate 20-ish inch monitors. I'd have some of my programs on one screen & the rest on the other. But my desk at home doesn't have as much real estate, so I thought I'd give this a whirl.

I may put the 55" that was in my living room in my home office. It's too much for running most programs, but could be pretty good for viewing full size floor plans without having to zoom around to read everything. That, and I can still use it to watch movies.

Well, I have it set up - and SWEET JEEZUS, THIS THING IS HUGE.

I can't tell how much of any kind of difference the curve makes, but it doesn't bother me either. So that part of it seems to be a wash at this point.

I took a pic of my current setup yesterday :

The new guy's on the left, the tee vee beside it ( which was my monitor until a couple days ago ) is hooked up to the Roku, & the tee vee beside THAT is hooked up to my Google Fiber cable. And yes, this is all 1000000000000000% ridiculous.

Very cool setup but you need more pill bottles.

Cool. It looks like you're almost surrounded.

I have the same desk! Mine has the etched glass though. I don't have as many bobble-heads in my office though. I think I have one Mud Hens bobble, but the Mrs has a toys on her side of the room.

I did put my old 55" tv on the wall behind my desk. I haven't worked there yet to see if it will be OK as a second monitor, but I watched a 3d movie the night I set it up, and a movie while I was wrapping presents. At the very least, it's going to be good for that. Hopefully I can get rid of my really old 15" 2nd monitor I've been using for the last 16 or 17 years.

I wondered how long it would take for someone to make a crack about my lil' pharmacy. Most of 'em are in the vitamin/supplement category. But there's also meds there for a heart condition, high blood pressure, & asthma. Thanks, shitty gene pool!!!!!!!!!!!

Having recently had a heart attack and bypass surgery, I'm with you there. But I'm a more traditional guy, I keep mine in the bathroom.

Yikes. All I have is a tachycardia issue. Occasionally my heartbeat goes nuts for a couple minutes. I hope you're feeling a lot better after the operation!

( and mine are in here because I take 'em all after breakfast when I sit down to start work every morning at 6 am )

During my last hospital stay, I was getting the rapid heartbeat about twice a day, and it kept delaying my discharge, until they got the meds right. I've been doing well for a few months now.

Good to hear they got the right thing prescribed. I'm on Diltiazem for mine. It'll flair up momentarily sometimes, & then every few months it'll wig out hard enough that I need to force myself to cough for a minute or 2 - for some reason, that brings it back to normal. ( shrugs ) I was supposed to have a full cardioscan this year to make sure nothing else was afoot, but the Covid put the kibosh on that. Maybe in 2021.

I was on a higher dose of Diltiazem before this whole thing happened. Now I'm on a low dose, plus Plavix, plus Metoporol. The last one is pretty powerful; half of a 25mg pill drops my bp all day. Before they got me on that, I was on Coreg, which made me semi-comatose. I take my meds as soon as I get up. As long as I eat something later in the morning, I'm ok.

I'm on 180mg of Diltiazem, but I have no idea if that's high or not. Ha ha...my guess is it's not.
I was previously on 360 mg, which is not considered high (according to my doctor), but now I'm on 120 mg, which is low. So I'd say 180 mg is on the low side.

Btw, this may be the most unrelated hijacking of a thread ever. :D

I thought of that as I typed my response yesterday, then realized "Eh, I started the thread. If I wanna segue into heart chatter I guess I can."

So we'll be back with more of "Murmurs" after this word from the good folks at Cardiac Science - the makers of the new, top of the line Powerheart G3 Pro.

I did a little bit of work today on the 55". It's not great for text based stuff, but I wasn't really expecting that. It should still be ok as a reference monitor for text though. I'll have to try some graphics and maybe some cad later.
