Before tonight's entries, some useless statistics. I expect 98 to have a playlist of useless songs shortly or if he feels really challenged a playlist of statistics songs (or both). But here are the useless statistics.

The maximum possible score with 6 people voting was 300 points if we all voted for the same #1 song. The most points awarded was 153 (the #1 song). All 6 of us picked a different #1 song on our individual list. For 5 of us, at least 1 someone else also had it somewhere on their list. The average points excluding the 0 point songs works out to 38 points. The average with the 0 point songs is 35 points. The mean of the list without the 0 point songs is 35. With the 0 point songs it's 32. I remember from statistics class in university that the mean was important in that it was different than average but for the life of me I can't remember why.

And now on with the countdown ....

I remember from statistics class in university that the mean was important in that it was different than average but for the life of me I can't remember why.
My recollection is that there are 3 types of averages: median, mean, and mode. Mean is what most people think of as an average (sum/#). Median is the value which has an equal number of entries above and below. And Mode is simply the most prevalent entry.

Ok, now pencils down.

Bonus round this afternoon.

So far we are basically reverse counting down everybody's lists. Most of the entries are from a single vote cast for a single song. This will start to change. If you haven't seen your song from the lower part of the 50 yet, it likely means you shared a vote with another voter and moved it up the chart.

Looking at the ordering, I think maybe I should have used num votes over highest position. By doing highest position, I am disfavouring songs that more than 1 person voted for. But anyways, maybe next time.

Continue doing it this way. Then when you're all done, you can relist them the other way. Unless you have something more important to do with your time.

I also think the dislike factor also is a factor in madness. Sometimes a vote for X is more like a vote against Y.

The top of the list does have a few surprises.

Just a note about common voting. We didn't do a lot.
Number of songs with 3 voters: 14
Number of songs with 4 voters: 3
Number of songs with 5 voters: 2
Number of songs with 6 voters: 0
Needless to say the songs with more votes did better on the countdown. We have a lot of 2s.

There was something about the above posts that bugged me. Then it occurred to me. We had 8 people who voted regularly. @HecticArt chose not to submit his top 50. So in saying 6 voters whom did I miss? Well, I didn't really miss anybody. I just can't count. This did not affect the rankings just the statistics. Here are the revised paragraphs with all 7 voters taken into account:

The maximum possible score with 7 people voting was 350 points if we all voted for the same #1 song. The most points awarded was 153 (the #1 song). All 7 of us picked a different #1 song on our individual list.

Just a note about common voting. We didn't do a lot.
Number of songs with 3 voters: 14
Number of songs with 4 voters: 3
Number of songs with 5 voters: 2
Number of songs with 6 voters: 0
Number of songs with 7 voters: 0
Needless to say the songs with more votes did better on the countdown. We have a lot of 2s
