Before tonight's entries, some useless statistics. I expect 98 to have a playlist of useless songs shortly or if he feels really challenged a playlist of statistics songs (or both). But here are the useless statistics.

The maximum possible score with 6 people voting was 300 points if we all voted for the same #1 song. The most points awarded was 153 (the #1 song). All 6 of us picked a different #1 song on our individual list. For 5 of us, at least 1 someone else also had it somewhere on their list. The average points excluding the 0 point songs works out to 38 points. The average with the 0 point songs is 35 points. The mean of the list without the 0 point songs is 35. With the 0 point songs it's 32. I remember from statistics class in university that the mean was important in that it was different than average but for the life of me I can't remember why.

I remember from statistics class in university that the mean was important in that it was different than average but for the life of me I can't remember why.

My recollection is that there are 3 types of averages: median, mean, and mode. Mean is what most people think of as an average (sum/#). Median is the value which has an equal number of entries above and below. And Mode is simply the most prevalent entry.

Ok, now pencils down.

I also think the dislike factor also is a factor in madness. Sometimes a vote for X is more like a vote against Y.
