Nobody really likes modern jazz right? Like both the performers and audience are all pretending cause they think it makes them cool. Blues have always been cool. And kinda in the same realm as jazz but way better.

And this is coming from a guy who's fav music is heavily improvisational. There is good old jazz, Billie, etta, John, miles. Name a current jazz act u like. I dare you.

And I don't think I'm just being old here. I like various modern rap, rock, pop and to a lesser extent Country. But not jazz.

This post may be like calling Aaron an ethnic slur and if so sorry man. But if I'm ever in ur town I'm searching out blues spots all day.

I could dig some live blues or jazz if I'm a club, especially in New Orleans. But I'd probably never listen to it on the radio. And no I couldn't name many current jazz musicians. Wynton Marsalis, maybe.

I used to like going to jazz clubs when I was on ski trips. We would all hang out and pretend to like the music and talk. A rock club was always too loud to talk. If we went there we would likely dance instead,

I love jazz, but there hasn’t been much new stuff that I’ve noticed lately. Some of the guys that have been around for a while like Marsalis, Metheny, & Steve Khan.

Trombone Shorty might be the newest real jazz I’ve gotten.

Snarky Puppy and Vulfpek are fun new bands.

Kinda on the edge of Jazz I like Pink Martini and Thievery Corporation.

New Orleans is a great place to wander around and check out bands.

Same for me. Plus Gary Clark Jr. Joe Bonamassa still tours, but he's been around forever. Same with Herbie Hancock, Pat Metheny, and Carlos Santana.

I grew-up with influences from classical music, traditional jazz, fusion, and contemporary jazz (on top of my primary interest in rock). I have a ton of albums from John McLaughlin, Billy Cobham, Jean-Luc Ponty, Jan Hammer, Brecker Brothers, Chick Corea, Winton & Branford Marsalis, and Marcus Roberts. I don't know if that's what you consider modern - guys from the 70's and 80's?

Anyway, as an adult in my 20s and 30s, I got into some "audiophile" modern jazz, during the 80's and 90's. But I haven't kept my interest in that. I enjoy the occasional jazz club, but Mrs. Scotch isn't much of a fan. However, through association with the community band, I hear some local instrumental artists and combos. But no, I don't keep up with today's jazz, or many jazz artists. And I'm not attending modern jazz clubs or concerts.

Came across this Ryan montbleau guy and dig this song. Been having a little bit of issues domestically recently and this song kind of has been helping us get through it. I don't know maybe more helping me get through it but whatever it's a good song. Fuck you. Stop trying to dig into my life

Have you guys ever had a song in your head that you couldn't place and it took you like over an hour of searching to find because that just happened to me and it's happened to me before in this thread but right now it happened with this song.

This one I thought might have been Regina spektor and then I thought it was on the TV show community. Yeah it was neither of those things so it took forever

Before Kate Nash this one it happened to me... It took like 2 hours on YouTube to find it. Searched a whole bunch of '90s grunge hot girl in a bathtub. Yeah that's a lot. Easier said than done

Im watching that Bill Burr movie on Netflix, Old Dads. Its not that great but they have a storyline/joke in there that got me thinking.

When you sing along to hip hop do you sing the n word when its a lyric?

I do. I never even thought about it being a thing until this scene in the movie. Its just singling along.

Fortunately, this never happens.

I'm not a rap guy but I have Biggie or NWA, Snoop or og Kanye on my playlist. They show up from time to time between all my hippie jam band and 60s classic shit. You really have 0 rap on your shuffle?

This reminds me of a funny part of the song "Freaky Friday" by Lil Dicky.

He's a Jewish self-deprecating comedy rapper. In the song he switches bodies with Chris Brown. So it's actually Chris Brown rapping the lines, but under the pretense that Lil Dicky is in his body.

I woke up Chris Breezy
Oh my god, I'm the man
I'm so fly and I can dance
There's tattoos on my neck
I just FaceTimed Kanye
I told him I'm his biggest fan
Got all these hoes in my DM
Hol' up, holy shit, I got a kid
Ohhh, I can sing so well
Wonder if I can say the n-word
Wait, can I really say the n-word?
What up, my n****? What up, my n****?
Big ups, my n****, we up my n****
You pussy-ass n****, man, fuck y'all n****s
'Cause I'm that n****, n****, n****, n****
I'm that n****!!
