Most of the rap listening I do is Old School. Public Enemy, Sir Mix a Lot, Digital Underground, Rob Base & DJ EZ-Rock, The Fugees ('The Score' is an all-time classic!) A Tribe Called Quest, way more than that but that's the main ones. Of the newer stuff I am so far only into Kendrick Lamar, and some stuff that could be considered borderline R&B Hip-Hop like Bruno Mars. You should have seen the looks I got pulling in the to the parking lot at work blasting 'Fight the Power'. :D

Billy Strings grew up not far from here in Grand Rapids in the tiny town of Muir. When he won a Grammy for Best Bluegrass Album for "Home", he donated some of its proceeds to buy guitars for the students at his old elementary school.

Here comes a rant:

I'm all in on Goose these days.

I know I've talked about these guys before but I'm now convinced that they will grow to become the next household jam band name.

Now for normal people who pay some attention to music they will be familiar with The Grateful Dead and probably Phish and that's where it ends. Even big acts that sell out arenas are not that commonly known. Groups like String Cheese Incident or Widespread Panic or Moe. to name a few.

Now I may get a few details wrong here but from what I can gather the lead singer and bassist started Goose around 2016 after a failed previous band they were in together. Then in 2017 they added their keyboardist/second guitarist and that's when the band really took shape. They are from CT and did the bar scene all around that area until they were invited to open for another act that took them to some flyover states where they gained a bit of a following and managed to book dates alone, outside of the New England area from that. This got them noticed enough that they were invited to play a set at the Peach Festival in 2019:

And they killed it. That was a turning point for them. Take a look at some of the company they kept at that festival:

To hold your own amongst those heavy hitters is a pretty big deal.

And off they went. From there The Dead and Company invited them to play with them at their Playing in the Sand festival in Mexico at the start of 2020. Once again I may be wrong, but I think they were the first band ever invited to that fest.

Then Covid happened and they somehow managed to power through. They did a bunch of drive in concerts and other fun gimmicks like the "Bingo Tour".

At some point in 2020 they also added a second drummer/percussionist, Jeff, who they had played with before in various side projects.

It seems to me the face of the band is the lead singer and pianist. I mentioned before how I live how the pianist also plays guitar and always seems to be smiling on stage, like he's delighted to be where he is. And he's not a half bad guitarist either. The lead guitar is, Rick, is something special. He knows how to play. I like watching this guy who knows a thing or two about guitar and he was impressed:

As a band they seem to be doing everything right so far. They are constantly touring, putting out new albums and even live streaming their shows. They have the talent, the sound and the drive to become the next big thing. And they're still relatively young. I think they're all late 20's to early 30's. I see big things in the future for Goose.

And they do some fun covers:

(Their new drummer/percussionist is the upright bass player on this one btw.)

(and here they are doing a live podcast and Phish cover with Tom Marshall, the guy who's been pretty much the 5th member of Phish as their lyricist for decades now.)

The past year or so has not been great for goose.

These guys have been crowned the next phish... They need to get their shit together. And if they're going to do this crazy Rockstar shit, either hide it better or wait till you are actually the next phish and you've got like 20 years of touring arenas under your belt. Trey didn't get caught with oxys till like 2003, 30 years after the band started.

Now all of this is rumors. You can look them up though.... I'm not making this up out of nowhere.

February last year they replaced their drummer Ben who was a founding member of the band with this guy Cotter.

And today it was announced they've kicked out their percussionist Jeff. He was on leave since the beginning of the year and I just figured it was to go to rehab for normal Rockstar drug shit but apparently not. The band released a statement today that said they were made aware of behavior that does not align with the band.

Let's dive into this.

So the rumor about the drummer is that the keyboardist Peter was fucking his fiance and got caught and they came to blows. So that's pretty bad but whatever nothing crazy.

Now the rumor about Jeff is he's been fucking dm'ing a bunch of high school girls that follow the band on whatever socials and doing all sorts of creep shit.

Pull it together Goose. You guys are awesome! And the only thing stopping you from being the next it jam band is yourselves.

Yesterday I talked about rumors stating Jeff the percussionist was being a dirtbag with women including underage girls.... Today I'm finding stuff saying it wasn't underage girls but he was still being a creep and trying to leverage his power to fuck chicks.

That deserves a follow-up clarification post.
As of today we do not believe it had anything to do with underage girls.

But then again isn't that what every Rockstar is supposed to do? Like why become a rockstar if you can't leverage it to get laid? I guess he was being a real creep.

Oh also there is lots of talk on message boards and stuff about how the whole band is constantly coked up.

I'm deep into the Goose rumor mill.

The point of becoming a rock star is that they throw themselves at you. You shouldn't have to leverage, or groom, or whatever the hell it was that Diddy......did......

This is funny. I got that yearly recap thing from Spotify today. Fyi, I'll be 42 on Monday so a 27-year difference.

I got super into Queen in the middle of the year and I listened to a lot of them so I'm pretty sure that's where this is coming from. Also 69 hahahah I'm happy to always be considered 69 years old in my listening preferences.
