No fried clams, but I did get to a good seafood restaurant tonight.
Calamari and crab cakes for appetizers.
I was going to order the Panko Crusted Halibut but they were out for the night, so I got the BBQ Glazed Chilean Sea Bass.
It was freaking awesome.

This story ends with the delicious Cajun-style seared scallop Po' Boy pictured above. But it's how we got there that's the crazy part.

It starts with a call from friends, and a plan to meet for dinner. They're on the (MA) Northshore, so we agree to meet halfway at the lovely Seaglass restaurant along the ocean in Salisbury MA, on the NH border; about a half-hour ride for us. As we're getting ready, we find out that the husband can't make it, and they back out. At this point, we decide it's too late to make different plans, so I change the reservation to 2, and we start heading down. Mrs. Scotch wanted a little time to stop at the LL Bean outlet near the restaurant, and so that's where we were.

When I felt a little ping from my phone, I checked to see if OpenTable had sent a reservation reminder. The ping was not from OpenTable; it was from my Ring front door camera, where I saw this:

That's one of Mrs. Scotch's clients, and the dog she was scheduled to host for the night. She fucked-up the reminder on Google Calendar, and it slipped her mind! I had to calmly but quickly tell her that she had a scheduled client sitting outside our front door, while our dogs were in the house going nuts. It took close to a half-hour to get home, and during that time, we fabricated a story about visiting her mom, and she fell, and I don't even know. Of course we canceled our dinner reservation. On a positive note, she immediately dropped all the clothes she was planning to buy.

We got back to the house at 7:30, and apologized for about the next half an hour. Then we got all the dogs settled down, and figured out what to do about dinner, because we still hadn't eaten. In the lower part of York there's a downtown area called the Village, which sits along the harbor. It's quiet there, not like York Beach. And right at the center, there's a low-key, speakeasy-like place at the back of an old building called the Sundrop. They have live music there sometimes, and a big bar (it's also a brewery). And they have a gourmet chef that makes a lot of different things, but always locally based. We realized that only a small group of townies (mostly year-rounders) know about the place.

And so, at the end of a disastrous evening, I had a tall pale ale that they brewed on-site, and that Cajun scallop Po' Boy, with Cole slaw. Ironically, the Mrs. is always bitching at me that I refuse to use Google Calendar. I always put things in the notes app on my phone, and I do fine.

I missed most of this when I thought it was all about food.

I have much better luck with Apple Calendar. It has only one fatal flaw. The operator must look at the calendar to not miss an event.

AFAIK, Google Calendar can send out reminder alarms. I've heard her phone do this, and she'll say "It's reminding me that I have to go do xyz...". So if I have this correct, you don't have to look at the calendar. But for some reason, she fucked-up the entry in Google Calendar, and set it to an all-day event, instead of making it at a specific time. All-day events don't send out reminder alarms; in that case, you have to look at the calendar.

Apple will do the same .... if you set the alarm.

You're asleep at 11:50PM? Are you 7?
During the week, we're in bed by 10. We get up early and work. There was a time when I was watching TV until about midnight on a weeknight, and I'd get up at 7. But those days are gone.

When my kids were 7, they'd be in bed by about 8. Maybe Canadian time is on a different scale.

I fall asleep by 1AM usually and alarm goes off at 6:40AM on weekday. Sleep in more and stay up later on weekends. Also have naps on weekends.

And yes your 7 year old kids were indeed asleep at 11:50PM hence my comment.

I keep telling myself that I need to try to get to bed by 11:30 on weeknights, but it usually drifts into the 12:30-1:00 range before I know it.

I'm finding a lot of this unusual. On Tuesday nights, I have band rehearsal, so I get home a little before 10. I need to wind-down, so I'll go to bed at 11.

But on regular weeknights, we have dinner between 6 and 7. I watch jeopardy at 7:30, and then we may watch something at 8 or 9, or perhaps just have the TV on for background. But by 10, we're tired, and we can watch the news in bed.

We try to get 7 hours of sleep a night, so why stay up later? Like I said, in the old days, we stayed up till 11:30 to 12:30. And then there was a time where I recorded Jon Stewart and Letterman, watched that after dinner, and got to bed by 11. But I was getting into work at 8:30 or so. And that makes for a long day.

Now I'm in bed by 10, and working by 7:30. It's what older people do.
