Don't hurt my feelings like that.

I think the demise of desktops and laptops is greatly exaggerated. I can't see my office ever buying anything but desktops or maybe laptops (chained to the wall). We don't want or need to take work home.

Most of the developers in my office have laptops instead of desktops. Not me, but this isn't about me either.

I've got both. iMac with a 24" external monitor attached for most tasks, and a Macbook Air for when I need to go on the road, or connect up to some system via serial port. (Happens less often now that I have console servers everywhere, but sometimes going direct is easier).

But generally, yeah, the trend in my office is that most users have laptops now. Whether they ever leave the building is a whole different matter. My department supports several hundred users across many departments. Most of those users are still desktop people, if only because most of them don't care what they use or their bosses don't trust them to have laptops. But I can see a day coming when the laptops will be more common just because as membag pointed out - the only desktops left will be huge, bulky and loud.

Hmmm...

Carbonite recently announced the ability to back up external drives, so my requirements for a small PC have changed. I no longer need that expensive 750GB upgrade...
