Here are 2 examples from one of Howard's favorite bands; the Rolling Stones.

I can't get no satisfaction
I can't get no satisfaction
'Cause I try, and I try, and I try, and I try
I can't get no, I can't get no

I can't get no, oh, no, no, no, hey, hey, hey
That's what I say
I can't get no satisfaction
I can't get no satisfaction
'Cause I try, and I try, and I try, and I try
I can't get no, I can't get no

I can't get no, oh, no, no, no, hey, hey, hey
That's what I say
I can't get no satisfaction
I can't get no girl reaction
'Cause I try, and I try, and I try, and I try
I can't get no, I can't get no

I can't get no, oh, no, no, no, hey, hey, hey
That's what I say
I can't get no, I can't get no
I can't get no satisfaction, no satisfaction
No satisfaction, no satisfaction
I can't get no

Time is on my side, yes it is
Time is on my side, yes it is

But you'll come running back
You'll come running back
You'll come running back to me

Yeah, time is on my side, yes it is
Time is on my side, yes it is

You'll come running back
You'll come running back
You'll come running back to me

Time is on my side, yes it is
Time is on my side, yes it is

You'll come running back
You'll come running back
You'll come running back to me

Yeah, time, time, time is on my side, yes it is
I said, time, time, time is on my side, yes it is
I said, time, time, time is on my side

Brilliant, eh?

In contrast to my above post, on Reddit someone asked "What's a song you don't think you'll ever tire of hearing?"

The top upvoted answer is "Sultans Of Swing". Also up there in number of upvotes are "Tempted" by Squeeze and "Light My Fire".

2/3 ain't bad. Neutral on "Light My Fire" but like Squeeze and "Sultans Of Swing" is my #3 song.

I don't think it was the repetition, it was rhyming fire with fire
Yeah, they should've come up with something witty, like this:

Abra abracadabra
I wanna reach out and grab ya

And FYI, the chorus in Light My Fire isn't intended to be a rhyme, it's just repetition of the word. They do plenty of rhyming in the verses.

My biggest problem with the song is it seems to be written about 'smoke this joint so I can fuck you'. Which doesn't appeal to me on any level. And neither does the music. And the opening lines always sounded really dumb to me: "You know that it would be untrue. You know that I would be a liar. If I was to say to you..."

But I know I'm in the minority, and that's nothing new

If I'm going to laugh because the Doors rhyme "fire" with "fire", I have to be fair and laugh at the Beasties too...

Well, everybody rappin' like it's a commercial
Actin' like life is a big commercial

-"Pass The Mic"

The rumor is there was a different line written for that but Mike D just screwed up, and the other two thought it was funny and insisted on leaving it in.

I was going to start a thread about songs with bad rhymes, but then I found this recent discussion. So I guess we can add rhyme stuff here.

To be clear, I don't hate this song, but Eddie Vedder is very loose with the rhymes.

Pearl Jam - Just Breathe

The whole song is a series of near-rhymes that kinda bugs me

"Just Breathe"
Yes, I understand that every life must end, uh-huh
As we sit alone, I know someday we must go, uh-huh
Oh I'm a lucky man, to count on both hands the ones I love
Some folks just have one, yeah, others, they've got none

Practiced all my sins, never gonna let me win, uh-huh
Under everything, just another human being, uh-huh
I don't wanna hurt, there's so much in this world to make me bleed

I wonder everyday, as I look upon your face, uh-huh
Everything you gave
And nothing you would take, oh no

While listening to the 1982 VJ this week I was reminded of another "Lobster Song" of mine (a song you hate that millions of others like).

"Tainted Love" is another of my lobster songs. Can't skip it fast enough.

But even my wife likes it.

However, this commercial that used it back in the 90s was really good:

Is this the song you're thinking of, Mistert Hectic? Oh! was a #13 hit in March 1920 by the Ted Lewis Jazz Band. Lewis, born Theodore Friedman, was known for opening all his concerts and radio broadcasts by asking, "Is everybody happy?" Walter "Pee Wee" Hunt reached #3 in September 1953 with an instrumental version of Oh! Here is the original. The vocalist is Jack Kaufman, a tenor who sang on more than 200 recordings between 1919 and 1929.
