I really hate The Aba Daba Honeymoon, written by Arthur Fields (lyrics) and Walter Donovan (music). A duet version by Arthur Collins and Byron Harlan was number one for two weeks in November 1914. The song became a hit again after Debbie Reynolds and Carleton Carpenter sang it in the 1950 Jane Powell/Ricardo Montalbán movie Two Weeks With Love. There were five top-30 versions of The Aba Daba Honeymoon in 1951. The Reynolds/Carpenter version was the biggest, reaching #3. Other versions were by Freddy Martin, Cliff Steward, Richard Hayes/Kitty Kallen and Hoagy Carmichael/Cass Daley. The song has also been recorded by Ray Stevens, Maria Muldaur, Debbie Reynolds (solo), Clinton Ford, Joanie Bartels, the Kit Kats and the Three Stooges.

Here is the Reynolds/Carpenter version. Listen at your own risk. "Aba daba daba daba daba daba daba dab, said the chimpie to the monk. Baba daba daba daba daba daba dab, said the monkey to the chimp. All night long they'd chatter away. All night long they were happy and gay, swinging and singing in their hunky-tonky way." Gak!

My wife walked into the room with a look on her face like she'd seen a ghost. Not only did she not like it, but when she was a little kid, her grandmother used to say lines from this song randomly and she never knew where it came from - and now she does. She walked away shaking her head.

That "Miracles" song. Terrible! I remember the world goofing on them for weeks.

Fucking magnets, how do they work?
And I don't wanna talk to a scientist
Y'all motherfuckers lying, and getting me pissed

I gave them +1 credit for writing a song about the wonder of the world (instead of about eff this and that and bitches and stabbing and nut sacks). But I give them -50 points for revealing the true depths of how stupid they really are.

"Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and to remove all doubt."

I just learned today that Bob Dylan's "everybody must get stoned" song is named "Rainy Day Women ♯12 & 35".

Anyway, I hate that song. The cacophony hurts my ears and the lyrics make the rest of my head hurt.

I like it, but it's one of those "in its day" kind of songs. In its day, the cheekiness and subject matter were standouts. It's certainly overplayed.

I generally don't get into the campfire hippie vibe songs like this one, "Give Peace A Chance", etc. I can see why some people dig 'em but the whole 'chanting group of people who can't really sing or play' vibe doesn't connect with me at all. Which, now that I think about it, contradicts my ability to be in unsuccessful local bands for over 20 years.....

Rainy Day Women #12 & 35 was the second of five singles released from Dylan's Blonde On Blonde album. Bassist/harmonica player Charlie McCoy is quoted in Clinton Heylin's 1991 biography Bob Dylan: Behind The Shades: "Dylan said he wanted to get kind of a Salvation Army sound so they asked me if I could find a slide trombone player. I got Wayne Butler and after he arrived at the studio we cut Rainy Day Women in about 17 minutes, in one take." The song peaked at #2, as did Like A Rolling Stone. Dylan has never had a number-one hit, although four of his songs were chart toppers for other artists: Mr. Tambourine Man by the Byrds, Blowin' In The Wind by Peter Paul & Mary on the adult contemporary chart, Blowin' In The Wind by Stevie Wonder on the R&B chart and To Make You Feel My Love by Garth Brooks on the country chart.

You want a really horrible Dylan song? Here is Wiggle Wiggle:

As much as I like a vast majority of The Beach Boys work, and as much as I think Brian Wilson is a musical genius, I don't particularly care for "Barbara Ann" as a song.
