I've already complained about how songs where a woman portrays herself as a disgusting slut and uses sex to get money out of men are being called "female empowerment". Well, this takes it to a new level. Kate Nash started an OnlyFans and is selling photos of her ass to finance her next tour, and is calling it "empowering" and part of "being in control of" her body.

“Don’t be ‘sad’ that I started an onlyfans to fund my tours,” she wrote on Instagram. “It’s very empowering and selling pics of my arse is fun & funny, sex is fun & funny. Women being in control of their bodies is vital and something we should all be standing by & fighting for.”

She can do whatever she wants; she's talented and witty. Here's an awesome live performance of Foundations

What pisses me off the most though is the bullshit 'empowerment' excuse.

Women being in control of their bodies is vital and something we should all be standing by & fighting for.

No one took control of your body. No one needs to stand by you and fight for your right to photo your ass and sell it. You're not empowering women any more than Hugh Hefner, Larry Flynt or Bob Guccione.

I think you're falling into the Channel98 trap. Maybe it's all those rhymes.

Meghan Trainor reveals she “cannot smile anymore” after botox surgery

Meghan Trainor has shared her experience undergoing botox surgery, revealing that she “cannot smile anymore”.

In a clip from Trainor’s podcast Workin’ On It, shared on Wednesday, Trainor shared a cautionary tale to listeners who may be thinking about opting for cosmetic surgery.

“To all my fellow girlies out there who are in your 30s out there, hi. I got too much Botox, and I need help,” she said on the podcast. “I messed up.”

She added that she’s sought out Botox “a handful of times” over the years “just on my forehead”.

“Someone convinced me with my little lips that – if you did a lip flip [and] you put filler right above your upper lip – you could have a beautiful flip on your upper lip and I could have one for the first time in my whole 30 years of living,” Trainor explained. “It was not true.”

If you look at this, or Pitchfork, or NME, or about 20 other magazines/sites, you will get a normal list of songs and artists that reflects the broader music crowd. I go to metacritic.com, which has many "best of the year" lists.

Usually the Pitchfork, NME, Time, Rolling Stone etc are chosen by the staff, who I usually totally disagree with. This was a reader's poll.

It was especially nice to see that 'brat' didn't beat it. I heard the explanation from Charli XYZ about what 'brat' is, and my brain imploded. Then shot itself.

You're just like that girl who is a little messy and likes to party and maybe says some dumb things sometimes. Who feels herself but maybe also has a breakdown. But kind of like, parties through it, is very honest, very blunt.

I haven't been looking at MetaCritic for a while now. It looks like they don't compile the music site lists anymore. But in any case, there's no point in debating music lists that include genres of music you don't like.

For new music, I listen to XMU, Alt Nation, and Spectrum. None of them play Charli XCX or Taylor Swift or Drake or any of that, so I'm good. I value their "best of" lists, because their music sensibilities align with mine. But just as I don't drink Bud Light or watch American Idol, I don't give a shit about teeny-bopper music. And fortunately, I don't have to expose myself to any of those things. That's the beauty of choice.

Since I listen to a lot of genres, and am always seeking out new music, I hear a fair amount of new pop. Unfortunately most of it sucks horribly - like worse than 70s, 80s and even most 90s pop. Technology has made talent unnecessary, but some of us can still tell the difference between talented tripe vs polished & processed turds.

For example, that Sasami "Honeycrush" song you shared is a pop song, and I dig it. I also like "Never Need Me" by Rachel Chinouriri (and I saw it on a few best-of lists this year). Hard Life (formerly Easy Life) is also pop and their single this year "Tears" is really good. But a lot of today's pop is airhead bimbo slut ditz anthem crap by people can't actually sing or play an instrument.

I didn't like most of the 80s girlie pop (Tiffany, Debbie, Whitney, Taylor Dayne, Sweet Sensation, Seduction, Lisa Lisa, etc) but at least there was a baseline of some actual talent buried under those annoying songs.

I'm with you so far...
I hear a fair amount of new pop. Unfortunately most of it sucks horribly
but this is where I lose you. I'm guessing that you "seek out" new music differently than I do. I restrict my music sources to channels/stations/streams that don't play sucky new pop. So, while I don't like everything I hear, I know it's not going to be sucky new pop.
For example, that Sasami "Honeycrush" song you shared is a pop song, and I dig it.
Exactly. The reason it doesn't suck is because I heard it on one of my reliable music sources. But it sounds like you roll the dice more than I do, and delve into the "general sea" of music, which I don't do.

On Saturday night, we tried our luck with trivia night at the Shipyard Brew Pub in Eliot. The guy hosting was not good: the best way to describe it is to say that there was very little overlap between his circle and ours on the Venn Diagram of trivia. He had a question about Shaboozey being on the Hot 100 for 19 weeks or something, and we had no clue. That's because I've never heard a Shaboozey song, or listened to a music channel that might play him; which is good for me, but bad for trivia.
