My phone seems to have got itself stuck in headphone mode. I think it may have got a tiny bit wet as it was raining and now thinks it has headphones in it all the time. So it produces no sound (unless its an alarm or a ringer). Is there any way to tell it that there is no headphones? Or am I looking at some sort of scratched up refurb replacement at the Apple Store?

Have you done the whole plug the phones in and out a bunch of times? The compressed air old phones-hole deal?

Does blowing into it count as compressed air? Yes I did that and the reboot thing.

Compressed air might have a little more power to clear it up if there's something in there.
Did you plug in and unplug several times?

Do headphones work when you plug them in?

    Yes. Several times.
    And yes they still work.

I will try compressed air if it doesn't clear up overnight.

Have you tried squirting lighter fluid into the jack? You'll also need a match.

I don't think that will fix it.

As easy as it went away, it has come back. Hopefully headphones will still work. :)

Thanx all for the help, support and wisecracks.

If you still have warranty on it (AppleCare) you can take it to an Apple store and get a refurbished replacement model. I used to do that all the time when I was on AC.

It is under AppleCare for another 6 months. But it has started working again so I don't have to worry about it. You never know the history of a refurbished unit while mine has been cared for.

True, but I've also had refurbished units that were better. I think Apple prefers 'remanufactured' as to not scare people off. That's what we called all the replacement phones at Geek Squad.

You've got time to wait it out and see if it acts up again.
