The next big thing (in tech). Artificial Intelligence for the common man.

Imagine instead of going to Google for information, using AI instead.

This has already been available in some form to the average person with things like Alexa, Siri, etc. But this takes it to a whole new level.

This is a good intro of what it is and how to use it, for those interested.

This is where to find it and try it (requires an account).

I’m skeptical. There are a lot of non-answers in there.
I expect it to get littered with product placement and advertisements before it takes off.

With my luck, I’ll ask it for a chicken recipe, and it will say “You really don't want dinner, here are some websites with big breasted girls. Shall I clear your browser history? Perv….”

At band practice a couple weeks ago, my bassist brought up ChatGPT on the big TV in our jam space and said, "I know we're having a little trouble coming up with words for this song. Here's an idea."

He typed in something like, "write a rock song about angst and depression". Boom - a fully formed set of lyrics about exactly that. Then he typed, "make it simpler". Boom - it was less artsy/poetic and with fewer big words. Just for fun I asked him to if it could make the song feel like it was from 1987. Boom - the lyrics were changed to feel like a rock song from 1987.

Wild.

A guy on a guitar forum that I visit had been talking about this.
He had it write a poem about guitar synthesizers.
I had teased him that it didn't rhyme.
He came back a little while later with a different version that did, Then he asked it for a haiku.

Kids can use it to write reports for them. So when your doctor kills you because they don't know the difference between a heart and a liver, you'll know why.
note: the students being written about go by the pronoun 'they'

innovate_rye’s professors know them as a first-year biochemistry major, and an “A” student. What their professors don’t know about them is that they’re using a powerful AI language model to finish most homework assignments.

“It would be simple assignments that included extended responses,” innovate_rye, who asked to use their Reddit handle to avoid detection by their college, told Motherboard. “For biology, we would learn about biotech and write five good and bad things about biotech. I would send a prompt to the AI like, ‘what are five good and bad things about biotech?’ and it would generate an answer that would get me an A.”

...

When AeUsako_ was a high school senior last spring, they used OpenAI to generate an entire essay about contemporary world affairs. They told Motherboard that, while they didn’t ace the assignment—they lost points for failing to cite outside sources—they did learn that plagiarism-checking algorithms wouldn’t flag the AI-generated text.

At $29B, you know that product placement is going to be heavy.
When you ask it about Kennedy getting assassinated, the reply will be “While riding in his custom Cadillac limousine with Goodyear tires, shots rang out from the Pella Windows of the nearby book repository. The tremendously accurate Remington rifle was equipped with a long range Bushnell scope (available here on Amazon.com). Got brains on your upholstery? Try Clorox wipes and get the blood out.

AI isn't quite there yet on helping respond to personal ads...

Not a single person responded after I sent them a ChatGPT-generated response

One person said their most irrational fear was flying. I asked the chatbot to come up with a funny reply, to which it said: "No problem, I'm more than happy to hold your hand and provide moral support during turbulence. And if the plane goes down, at least we'll go out together in a romantic blaze of glory!"

I sighed. I hit send. I never heard back.

In reply to a flame emoji left on one of my photos, ChatGPT offered: "Thanks for the hot compliment! I'm flattered, but I'm not sure if I can handle all that fire. Maybe we can start with some cozy cuddles and a nice glass of wine instead?"

In another prompt, I asked the bot to write a short, witty response to someone whose profile says they work in finance. In response, it gave me the most deranged and clearly robotic response yet.

"Hey there finance person! I see you're good with numbers. Can you help me with my budget? I'm trying to save up for a lifetime supply of avocado toast and craft beer. Is that a good investment?"

The "finance person" ghosted. Understandable.

So what would change my mind, is if the Chatbot replies to the next request for a Cave style song by saying “Mr. Cave is a thoughtful and sensitive artist, who doesn’t appreciate my efforts. Rather than offend him further, I cannot fulfill this request. Would you like something in the style of Nickelback?”

“She’s a dirty girl, who likes to rub it long, if her daddy knew, she rubs it like her mom.”
