Mother May I

Genre: rock and roll

Discovered: CMJ

Other: Mid 90s rock sound a la Goo Goo Dolls, etc. Got signed and toured the US and England, but never broke. Yet another band where I pretty much just like one of their albums.

HIGH FIVE:

1. Meet You There
2. Poison Dart
3. Painted On
4. Dick And Jane
5. Birthday Wish

Not my fave of the new stuff that you’ve shared.
There’s something about the lyrics that don’t quite seem polished to me.

I’ve never heard of them. Did they open for Stonebolt?

I like them though. Fun, quirky, and well produced.

I saw them on their final tour. Not the current final tour, but the previous final tour with Alice Cooper.
It was a really good show.

I've never been a big Crue fan. There were some I liked more than others, and some not so much. Live Wire was one of the early ones that I liked.

2. Green-Tinted Sixties Mind

I’ve seen them a couple of times. Paul & Billy shred.
Once was at a smallish club, and the other was when they opened for Rush. After their set, while they were setting up Rush’s gear, I saw the singer was hanging out in the moat in front of the stage. I went up and talked to him for a minute & got his autograph.

Mudvayne

Genre: prog metal, radio metal

Discovered: don't remember but it was "Dig"

Other: I would name "Dig" as the best metal song of the millennium. A co-worker of mine just heard the song for the first time recently and she's been addicted to it since, saying "I can't believe I've never heard this song before now! It's effing amazing!" Their best known songs aren't in my 5 below. Those would be "Forget To Remember", "Fall Into Sleep", "Happy?" and "Do What You Do". Over time they got less technical and more radio.

HIGH FIVE:

1. Dig
2. Not Falling
3. Just
4. Determined
5. Pushing Through

Did she know what the lyrics were about, or did she just repeat them because they were catchy?

I dated a girl back in 1989 or so that was very straight-laced, proper, shy, etc. You would have expected her to have a Trapper Keeper notebook in high school that had kittens on it. I thought I'd play her some music she’d like, so I picked Melissa Etheridge. She played Metallica when it was her turn to pick a CD. :\m/:
