The second song listed is a new single by legendary trumpeter and Tijuana Brass leader Herb Alpert – and yes, it’s an instrumental version of the Mariah Carey song that we’re all sick of.

Much of the music on Holiday Instrumentals is bland and boring – so I was surprised to hear the Ventures' Sleigh Ride, the opening track on their
1965 Christmas album cleverly titled The Ventures' Christmas Album. This was released as a single on December 3 of that year but failed to chart.

This channel is essentially what our community band plays (including the instrumental version of the Mariah song), but we don't play these cheesy old versions. Most of the stuff we do has contemporary orchestrations, and they often put them together as medleys with interludes and variations on themes. And we have a vocalist for certain pieces.

Here's one of the pieces we do that has a modern arrangement. It builds as it goes along

Greensleeves arr. Chip Davis/ed. Robert Longfield

I take back what I said last year. Most of the songs played on the Holiday Instrumentals channel are not "bland and boring." Here are some of the songs played today. Trombonist Bob McChesney and singer/violinist Calabria Foti are husband and wife. O Christmas Tree is from their first duet album, Together For Christmas. Nelson Riiddle's The Christmas Song is from the 1965 album An Orchestral Portrait Of Nat "King" Cole. And the Boston Pops Orchestra's Christmas Time Is Here is not an instrumental.

I'll Be Home For Christmas – Jackie Gleason (1956)
I'll Be Home For Christmas – Oscar Peterson (1995)
It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas – Lex De Azevedo (1972)

The Buckingham Strings also recorded as the Cathedral Strings. Their music was originally for radio airplay only and was not released commercially. Their Christmas songs are now available on the CDs Holiday Traditions, Adventures In Carols and Buckingham Strings Christmas. I don't know whicvh of those includes Frosty The Snowman. They were released by Surrey House Music.

You could go to their Facebook page and ask about the song. Somebody might be able to provide more details.

Frosty The Snow Man – the original title – was written by Steve Nelson and Jack Rollins, who also wrote Peter Cottontail. Nelson also co-wrote several hits for Eddy Arnold, including Bouquet Of Roses, Will Santy Come To Shanty Town and I'm Throwing Rice At The Girl That I Love. Gene Autry & The Cass County Boys were the first to record Frosty The Snowman, on June 12, 1950. (Accordianist Fred Martin was born in Linden in Cass County, Texas). Roy Rogers, Vaughn Monroe, Nat "King" Cole and Guy Lombardo & His Royal Canadians also recorded the song in 1950.

musicJoe, you will probably like this performance of Frosty The Snowman by the Australian quartet Stringspace. They recorded the song in 2018 for their CD Strings For Christmas.

I would never suggest nor encourage ripping the song from YouTube with something like youtube5s.com

Because morals and such.
