I plan on getting a new laptop. I'm really looking at the Macbook pro's. I don't feel like spending an arm and a leg so I think I'm going to go with their higer end 13in. I'm not a PC/MAC gamer, but I was thinking of installing Left 4 Dead 1 and 2. That way I can play them from time to time. What I'm wondering is if I will have enough processor and graphics power to do that.

I was also thinking about getting it from Macmall. They seem to have pretty good prices and I can have Windows 7 installed for use with bootcamp. Has anyone bought anything from Macmall? I googled them and they have mixed reviews. Also does anyone have Windows 7 running on their Mac with bootcamp? If so how is it working out for you? Thanks again for all your help. I do appreciate it.

I'm willing to bet that the low end 13" will do what you want. You would be paying $300 for a little more processor speed and a slightly bigger hard drive. You can easily upgrade your RAM and hard drive for much cheaper.

I have never purchased from Macmall. I get my stuff from an Apple Store or Best Buy. One can use the educational discount at the Apple Store and save $100 on a MacBook Pro. You might be able to use this yourself.

I use VMware Fusion for my Win 7. It works great. I did have bootcamp set up on my old MacBook and I never used it. Using a VM was much easier.

Do some searching around on MacRumors.com.

I switched over to Mac about 2 years ago.

I won't say I'll never go back but they'd really have to tick me off to do it.

The absolute worst part about buying a Mac is the price. I was there where you are: $500 laptop at Best Buy with Windows or $1500 for a Mac.

You look at it and think: But I could buy 3 of those machines for 1 Mac!!!

Probably a better way to think about it: The overall customer satisfaction with Macs is exceptionally high. Yeah, you can find the guy who bought one and hated it. You'll find plenty more that were you in shoes who'll say, "I'll never go back." These are folks who had the same thoughts as you did with the "But I can buy 3 PCs for 1 Mac!!"

I don't know what's required for Left For Dead but as mentioned above, you can either Boot Camp it (just boot into Windows in stead of into OS X) or VM it. I've done both and like the poster above, I just do VM now.

In fact the only thing I still use Windows for is to update my Radar Detector (Escort 9500ix - has the camera DB in it that is updated by Escort). I -really- wish they'd just make a Mac client but it's unlikely.

The only thing that sucks about Macs is the Apple Store. I don't like going in there (usually just order online and avoid the Apple Store altogether). The reason: It freaks me out a bit how much people just hang out in there (like some kind of freaking cult).

I'm not part of the cult - Apple does make good products, though.

Thanks for the info and your input. I feel you on not going to the Apple store and the whole cult thing. After all the research of done online it looks like I will be getting a shiny new Macbook Pro 13 incher. I'm going with the higher end one though. I hope when I get it I don't start chanting and praying to Steve
Jobs. :Smiley_wink: Seriously they do make wonderful products. I've always lover their Ipods and Ipod touches.

I went on the L4D website aand joined their forums. I posted the same question on their Mac forum. I was told that both of those games should run just fine. Even on the lower end MacBook Pro. I just have to run it on low to medium settings. One guy said he has to run it on Medium when using snow leopard, but when he reboots to Windows 7 he can run it on the higher settings and it's a lot quicker. I plan on getting Windows 7 added to it. That way I have the best of both worlds.

Thanks again guys for your help. Great forums we have here!
