Billy Joel broke the news that he will have his own channel on Sirius XM, for three months, beginning March 26.

"Billy Joel -- a very famous New Yorker, after all -- arrived at the new New York-based "Tonight Starring Jimmy Fallon" to effectively consecrate Fallon's Gothamized version Thursday night, and did so by breaking a little news, about a forthcoming Sirius channel -- and by singing a duet of that old Solomon Linda chestnut, "The Lion Sleeps Tonight," with the host.
Of the Billy Joel Channel, he admitted he didn't entirely know what he was going to do with it, but that's OK -- it's his channel to do whatever he darn well likes."

Where it will end up on the dial, or online... we don't know yet.
Details to follow...

http://online.wsj.com/article/PR-CO-20140324-908119.NEW YORK, March 24, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- SiriusXM announced today that it will launch The Billy Joel Channel, an exclusive channel featuring the works of iconic artist, Billy Joel.

The limited-run channel will launch on Wednesday, March 26 at 6:00 pm ET and will run through June 25, via satellite on channel 4. The Billy Joel Channel will also be available online and through the SiriusXM Internet Radio App.

The Billy Joel Channel will feature music spanning the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer's 50-year career: from his earliest work with The Echoes in 1964, to his solo debut Cold Spring Harbor from 1971, through his upcoming release, A Matter of Trust: The Bridge to Russia. The Billy Joel Channel will also feature 40 years of archival interviews, including excerpts from his "Masters Class" sessions that he conducts periodically to music students around the world, as well as rarities from the vaults, previously unavailable studio tracks and live performances captured in his earliest days as a performer.

SiriusXM listeners will hear Billy Joel discuss his legendary career and share commentary about his music, as well as becoming the new Franchise at Madison Square Garden.

"Billy Joel is one of the most beloved musicians of the past five decades whose music and cultural initiatives remain relevant to fans of every age," said Scott Greenstein, President and Chief Content Officer, SiriusXM. "Our channel celebrating the legendary Piano Man will offer listeners a truly comprehensive and deep dive into the music of one of today's most important musicians."

The exclusive channel will also feature long-time members of Billy Joel's touring band revealing experiences about their time on the road together on the special Guest DJ sessions.

Additionally, SiriusXM listeners will hear A Matter of Trust: The Bridge to Russia, the complete concert recorded in Russia in 1987, including 12 unreleased tracks and bonus material, in its entirety on Tuesday, May 20, the day of its release.

The Billy Joel Channel is an example of SiriusXM channels created with iconic and prominent artists, including Bruce Springsteen's E Street Radio, Jimmy Buffett's Radio Margaritaville, Willie Nelson's Willie's Roadhouse, The Pink Floyd Channel, B.B. King's Bluesville, Elvis Radio, Siriusly Sinatra, Ozzy Osbourne's Ozzy's Boneyard, Pearl Jam Radio, Eminem's Shade 45,Tiesto's Club Life Radio and Neil Diamond Radio.

Another bonehead move to take off 40's on 4 for 3 months for those that don't have the internet sub or like to listen in there cars. a weekend or a week ok- but 3 months!
The SiriusXM FB page is getting hammered-
Why not just use on of the 3 clear channel stations or put only on the internet side on a limited engagement channel?
:wtf:

You are correct.
What a disappointment that they would decide to hijack a channel for this instead of placing it elsewhere or just online.

Of all of the channels they could have picked from, I can't see the logic either.

Perhaps the audience of 40s music is dying off?
SXM probably figured they hadn't figured out Facebook either.
At least they have forgotten about the bridge.

I look forward to the Joel channel but looks like the end of SXM 4 ?

Well I would sincerely hope this is not the end of 40's on 4. I was under the impression there was a good following of the channel. Just looking at the channel's web page on SXM, it has fans, including me.

As for Billy Joel, I liked The Stranger and 52nd Street. Good stuff.

I like both of these channels but dont know why they could not have put it on Classic Rewind or Classic Vinyl. I could have just went to the other channel.

The 40's on 4 fans really have no alternative choice.

You can always listen to the "other" '40s on 4 channel ...

Siriusly Sinatra :)

Good try.

This move is as odd as when WKRP went too an all rock format.

But I will move on and listen to the Billy Joel channel because I liked a lot of his early solo stuff. And I am under the assumption that 40's on 4 will return this summer just in time for Sunday afternoon's on the porch. But if it does not return, I will be very very very very very disappointed. I'm writing to SXM to ask them to make sure it comes back.

What I find interesting about this is that if go to the 40's on 4 FB page- it states that it's not monitored and to post on the main page -but subscribers are posting there as well in addition to the 40's on 4 team liking all the recent posts. so It would seem that maybe they also agree what a bonehead move this really is from Greenstein to get his Payolla while losing subscribers for such a unique channel.

I also just remembered last year they tried to have a metallica limited channel take over Liquid Metal and they must of got an earful from the listeners as they changed there mind and left Liquid Metal alone- Well they can do the same with 40's on 4- if not on channel 4, on another channel that both radios can pick up.

If anyone can find it online say youtube or another way.... check out when Stern had Billy in studio. The interview was awesome and Billy did a bunch of his songs live. When he was done he explained what the song ment to him and how he came up with the lyrics. It was a really good long segment. I think any fan would love it.

He's really good friends with Howard and loves his show. After the segment he stayed and hung out with people that work on the show and watched how it ran. Billy is an amazing artist and just a damn good guy.
