After Pierre axes the carbon tax you guys will be easily able to afford tariffs and then maybe American and Canadian years will finally line up.

Or you could just become our 51st state. But you're about to have a guy who has an actual backbone. So I think that proposal is off the table.

You know that's not how tarrifs work. Americans will pay 25% more for anything from Canada. We only pay more if our government responds with retaliatory tarrifs (which they will).

I was going to put the royal rumble on netflix on my phone so i could hear the commentators. My plan was perfect except I based it on Canadian Netflix content which is all PPVs and Smackdown and Raw. In the USA it's only RAW. And since I am physically in the USA, I get USA content. Stupid Peacock.

Business talk not political, but prices will go up more on products hit with tariffs than the 25% surcharges.
Companies will add the 25% plus costs for the additional effort they need to add for extra effort that they have to put into dealing with it, and to offset projected losses for sales that they wont make for due to the higher prices. They also won't just pass their higher costs along at a break-even rate, they will still add more to maintain the projected profit margins that they have. (Nobody is in business to break even after all.)

I can see that 25% would easily become 40% or more by the time that products make it to the consumer.

I know I sounded moronic trying to understand what volume was....

But I think I made it abundantly clear and obvious how that post was a joke.

I mean, isn't that kind of a simplistic way to look at it?

I'm no economist but I have my own simplistic view of the matter...

It's a gamble.

While, the likely long-term outcome will lead to the detriment of both nation's economies, the country imposing them assumes that the target country will be affected significantly worse and thus will be forced to come to the table to negotiate.

It turns out that the geo restrictions of Netflix and other streaming platforms do not work over 5G. I was able to watch/listen to the event on Netflix. However the minute delay was annoying and given they put the person eliminated on the big screen it was not necessary so I stopped. I did go back and refer is I needed more update.

So my son and I are back in Columbus for a family visit. From here tomorrow we will head to Indianapolis (about a 3 hour drive) for the WWE Royal Rumble. We will come back to Columbus and do more family stuff returning to Toronto on the 6th. My son and I will also be celebrating our birthdays on Sunday. I think this is the first time we have done it in Columbus.

Below are my observations of the Royal Rumble and the trip to Indianapolis:
  • The roads in Indiana are shit. Worse than Michigan for maintenance.
  • Lucas Oil Stadium is absolutely amazing. The only other NFL stadium we have been to was Ford Field in Detroit. This one was much better.
  • We did floor level seating, I don't think I would do it again as our view was not that great. If I did I would want to be the front section not the back one.
  • They had big screens which we watched most of the action. The problem is they cut the video feed and just did the countdown and intro music and then the intro of the new wrestler. On the broadcast feed it is better.
  • There were 4 matches. All were good but the men's rumble was our favourite. A lot of star power in the ring.
  • The roads design in Indianapolis is horrible. I am thankful that Apple maps was able to help.
  • The state of Ohio in their infinite wisdom chose this winter as a good time to close and renovate all their rest stops on I70 both ways except their welcome centre.
  • My son had a fabulous time. We are recovering today as we got back into Columbus at about 3AM. Took us an hour to get out of the parking lot and the ares of the parking lot.

And here we are yet again. I've had this dilemma this Sophie's choice if you will so many times when you find your way to Hectic's state. It pains me to ever even consider complimenting either Canada or Ohio.

The lack of rest stops in Ohio is fucking idiotic. Yet I imagine a rest stop in Canada is a wider shoulder on the side of the road where you just get out and pee on a moose.

So in this instance I guess I have to rule in favor of Canada. Yet this is one of those instances where you'd rather just kill yourself instead of having to choose.

the minute delay was annoying

That's kind of awesome. It reminds me of back in the day when we would go to Eagles games. We would bring little FM radios to listen to Merle Reese call the game. But there wasn't a delay. So I guess sometimes old tech wins.

Simply put, it's the quickest way to significantly hurt all working class Americans, and destroy the US economy at the same time.

the country imposing them assumes that the target country will be affected significantly worse
Who is assuming this, and what would be the logic? If you raise the price of everything we buy by 25%, we will pay the 25% (and more), until we all go broke. The only alternative scenario is if there is a comparable and immediate American source for everything we get from Canada, Mexico, and China. There is not, and there's no plan to do that in a day, a month, or ever.

One place we passed was the "URANUS Fudge Factory". Their slogan on the interstate was "Fudge so good it must have come from URANUS". No, we did not stop.

I made this post on Sunday on Facebook. It is borderline political but since it doesn't mention any politicians on either side of the border I think it is ok for drc rules. Just a note that yesterday in Nashville at the Predators game hosting the Ottawa Senators, the Canadian anthem was also booed.

=========
As most of you know I married an American. My son is Canadian and American. My daughters are American. As such I have made it a point to sing the American anthem along with the Canadian one.

I have heard that at hockey games in Calgary and Ottawa that the American anthem was booed. It was also booed at a Raptors game in Toronto. This response is understandable but not something I am comfortable with. My response will be going forward I will not stand or sing or remove my hat for the American anthem. I will continue to do so for the Canadian one.
