On Friday my wife and I defied local stay and home order and spend 2 nights at a hotel just north of here (about 1 hours drive). We bought some groceries and cooked in (we had a kitchenette) and just enjoyed each others company. Ordered take-out at The Keg on Saturday for a delicious steak meal.

We did some exploring on Saturday. Spent most of the rest of the time in the room.

There were several visits by police and fire. I think there was a small fire in laundry room. And our neighbours were black so they had to be questioned although from what I can tell they had nothing to do with the laundry fire. The neighbours on the other side I think had a fight cause one of them was sleeping in the car this morning. Other than that an uneventful weekend.

A friend of mine's uncle was a bass player. When he lived in Chicago, he gigged, gave lessons and did studio work.
He did a soundtrack for a porno. He said the music was actually a lot of fun and a great bit of funk.
I never saw the movie, but my friend might know the title.

We are trying to make it to Columbus, OH for the week of 06/26 --> 07/05. Right now this is not allowed. Today the government removed the return quarantine for fully vaccinated people and the stupid covid hotel requirement if by air. But the land border remains closed. This means if we fly, we can't take our son as he won't get his second dose until July/August. Effective date is supposed to be early July so it depends on when they release the requirements. I have a letter into my MP explaining our urgency. My wife is concerned she won't be able to see her grandkids again before her cancer decides to come back. She is tired of waiting for COVID.

This could go in the "We Are All Going to Die" thread or here. So I am putting it here. On Friday Ontario moved us into level 1. Non-essential stores are allowed to open (as long as they have street entrance -- malls remain closed), big box stores can now sell non-essential items, And dining on patios is allowed (4 / table max). So tonight my son and I went to the Old Spaghetti Factory for dinner. As some of you know this is my favourite restaurant. It was nice. The forecast was for clear skies but it was a rainy off and on afternoon. The rain did stop about the time of our reservation so we ate in dry conditions. They had a show as well. Across the street when we were coming in there was a lady (probably homeless) arguing with a EMT (one ambulance was on the scene at the time). After we were seated a cop car came with 1 cop. As the night progressed more emergency vehicles joined the party. At the end, there were 5 cop cars (one came to the scene lights and siren blaring) -- 2 of which were "supervisors". 2 ambulances and 1 paramedic car. Someone was taken away in one of the ambulances by the end of dinner presumably the homeless woman who we saw at the start. Of course they were all parked blocking about 1/2 the street leaving 1 lane for 2 directions of traffic -- and on a bi-directional bus route. Needless to say with all those cops there, not 1 bothered to close the road or direct traffic. So it was interesting watching the various drivers negotiate passage.

So all in all it felt like the first "normal" day in a long time.

In other news,. since we live in a delta variant hot spot, my son qualifies for his second vaccine as of tomorrow. He will need to book it. And my MP was little help in solving our Columbus trip. My wife is convinced they will let me in by car.

Same one we went to for lunch?

We have a Spaghetti Warehouse downtown near the ballpark. If you guys make it through town this year (or next) on your way to or from Columbus, we can go there. You'd swear it's owned by the same company.
The one and the same,

As for this year, may be possible ... if we can get in.. It will be on our return trip as we will cross via Buffalo. A lot closer to go back if we get turned away. Will e-mail you dates and see if they work for you.

So our plan is to crash the border on Friday. I figure we have a 50/50 shot. I hope we do as it will be nice to be somewhere where life is further on towards normal. Driving to Hamilton on Wednesday to get my son his second vaccination.
