They certainly have less and less to hold my interest with each album.

I think it's the same for any band that starts off harder. They as they get older and richer, they get less inspired and mellow out.
Just ask Metallica.

Yeah I used to own Rod's 1988 album Out Of Order. While I don't need to own it anymore, most of it rocked ("Lost In You", "Wild Horse", "Lethal Dose Of Love", "Dynamite", "Crazy About Her", "Almost Illegal"). Andy Taylor (Duran/Power Station) is on guitar.

I have his 1995 album A Spanner In The Works and wow it is A/C. I think Adele rocks harder. I like a few songs on there (like his cover of Petty's "Leave Virginia Alone"), but I can only listen to this one when I'm not operating heavy machinery.
