...so, I'm watching Private Parts on HBO and it covers the following scenes:

1) The "Match Game" scene
2) Kenny's blowup at Howard (the Antichrist stuff.)
3) The kielbasa queen
4) Howard welcoming back Robin and complimenting her breasts
5) The naked lady that causes them to dump out of the radio delay and play a record.

In about 10 minutes.

...just an amazing work.

It's a shame Netflix took it off streaming.

-------

What happened to the various feuds? For a while, it was O&A vs Howard, but I know that feud was called off a while ago. Now, since of the O&A guys got fired from Sirius, they have no ammo for any feud.

What ever happened to Ellis? I'm aware Ellis is still around, but since BTLS is no longer on Sirius (and since this forum doesn't seem have an Ellis forum anymore...) I'm out of that loop. I know Ellis and Bubba were feuding, but I thought they made up?

----------

When did Wendy and Gary become "the slow adult??" Is this just Howard becoming more PC, in line with his AGT-self or is it an edict from SiriusXM?

It's actually Gary the Conqueror. I listen to every show, yet I'm also confused as to when this all started, and why.

O&A without A sort of kills any feud. But the truth is, Howard never gave O&A a moment of thought, so the so-called feud is a fabrication by those guys, to get publicity.

i need to watch private parts again. i remember enjoying it quite a bit but i havent seen it in years.

i think as far as the o and a thing goes howard is just so above them in terms of careers he finds it like stepping on an ant. when a got fired he did talk about how it shows they must not really like each other and now that o signed a new contract its 100% clear thats true. his excuse for staying was that he had a contract. howard also said something like if robin or fred got fired he just wouldnt do the show.

gary the conqueror still makes me smile every time i hear it. id rather wendys name stay the same but i think they changed them more as a joke about the current environment than any sort of real pc type cowering. and they still call them 'the retard' about half the time. best is when wendy calls in and says something like 'im retarded u asshole!'

The softening of the show began when Lange tried to off himself. December 2009. It's been a slow progression to this point but this is the turning point. AGT came, cats came, 3 day weeks came, 2 day weeks came. But also some guests they never could have gotten before 2010 came also. Trade off. Also, how far could they have taken some of their bits any farther than they did in 2006-2008.

I was just about to suggest re-watching Private Parts. :)

Howard reminds me a bit of ESPN (ok, maybe not, but work with me here.)... Some stuff ESPN does can be half-assed...but at the same time, if they throw production dollars behind something, they could really make that broadcast work. When Howard puts his mind to something, it can really be good, but he can also come in and just "punch in, punch out."

Yeah, I'm not sure if those two events are entirely related, but I see what you mean. Howard really needs that "extra voice" to bounce things off of. Fred does sound effects and hardly ever speaks. Robin really just seems to half-listen and then interject. Gary is good to goof on... but there isn't much of a "second voice" in the style of Jackie or Artie.

If Howard is slowly trying to wean us off, it's probably working. I don't know how many "Is Howard live this week?" or "I hardly listen, and when I do, it's mostly taped" comments. It just stinks there's not much else to turn to. I'm reminded of the channel known as G4. It'll finally go off the air later this year...but due to all the shows on it that are taped, someone compared it to "the shopping mall that's 75% closed and the Chinese place is getting ready to close." Maybe Howard is like that shopping mall..slowly going off-air, so when he finally does retire, it's not much of a sudden stop.

At the end of 2010, Howard signed a contract for 2011-2015. The contract calls for however many shows per year. He used to take a lot of time off in July and August. Now, with AGT, he still takes the same amount of time as 2010, but the days have been shifted so that he'll work more Mondays and Tuesdays in exchange for more Wednesdays off. -- It's just a shame AGT doesn't air on Wednesdays and Thursdays so he could maybe figure out a way to do live shows on Wednesdays. (I'm sure AGT wouldn't want to air on Fridays in the summer.) But under that case, he'd just take off more time in July and August.

by far the most obvious example of the punching the clock analogy is at the end of the show. u can clearly tell when howard is tired and ready to go home and when hes still going strong. its totally bipolar. one day robin can say something that has them go on a rant for 20 mins or howard and fred can go toe to toe on super funny impressions or jokes and then the next day its 'anything else robin?' for the entire news segment.

i miss the biting comedy art brought to the show. also my main gripe with the show is how howard is way less crazy then he was in years past. it stings me ever time he says he was 'insane' when talking about some of the truly classic bits he did in years past. the upside of the less douchey howard is that we get a solid a-list guest pretty much every single week. and its the best interview ur ever gonna find with people at that level. dont get me wrong id be happy with 1/10th of the a-listers if it meant throwing bologna at some girls ass or a gay sailor dance party but then when an amy poehler comes in it reminds me that im still listening to the best show out there.

as far as the frequency of shows go i was really happy to hear howard talk about how he has a set # of shows per year in his contract. yea the agt summer sucks but summer has always been the slow season ever since he started sirius in 06. at least we know that the amount of time off isnt related to agt, just its placement. this year was worse cause it was the first time he did so many 2 day weeks. i was just looking at howardstern.com to see some of the daily pics and realized that he has now done 7 weeks of shows straight before what i assume will be next weeks thanksgiving break. kinda feels like a reward for living through the summer months.

I'm sure we don't ALL miss Gilbert, but those days were awesome. I remember at least once in the FM days when he was still on-air at 11 am... (Not counting the 9/11 show.) I want to say the way the terrestrial show worked was that they had time on the satellites (ironic) until noon. Of course, there was the Sirius show the day of the film fest when he went until 11:45 and the entire WUS was something like "Film festival tonight! See you there, or tune in live to Howard 100!"

I would not be surprised if Howard really is bipolar. Look at all the times he'd be doing a show then instantly go into "rage at Tom" mode when someone alerted him that the delay button was pushed.

I'm with you. Ironically, a lot of people hated when BTLS did similar "crazy stunts" as they felt it was nothing more than trying to sell a few extra BubbaRaw subscriptions. But yeah, the wild stunts Howard did were certainly what defined his career, for better or worse.

The conspiracy is that Howard has "gone clean" to help his AGT image and possibly to help Beth's "career" or whatever you can call it. Maybe I buy that... It does seem quite odd that he really hyped up Sirius as doing the show his own way without government interference and he even made a big deal about taking the Wheel of Sex on that bus from K-Rock. The ironic thing is that most of the shows over the past few years could probably happen on terrestrial.

I also agree that Howard will be off all week (11-24 through 11-28.) It should be three weeks live after that and then coming back on 1/5. The interesting thing is that if he does three days a week next December, his last day of the current contract will be 11/16/15 and I'll let you figure out what that date means to Howard history.

It is sad that the spin-off shows are all nothing now. Bubba, Ferrall, the Intern Show and even SFRT are all gone. Heck, even the Chuck Zito show is gone (was that the show that aired at 12:01 am Tuesdays, directly following Monday's Ferrall show?) Of course, shows like Back Office Radio and Geek Time...we know what happened there.

Howard doesn't have comedians sit on the news because of those damn live read commercial. He has to get those in.

The crazy thing there? How many people listen to radio at that time frame? I'd guess that most people on the west coast or Mountain Time probably prefer 101 so they can listen to the "meat" of the show during their drive time. If Howard did 1-2 live reads per hour, that would probably get most of them in.

im pretty sure gilbert was sitting in on the news during one of the early classic sirius shows when they were talking about steve irwins death and gilbert got into a rant about steves like 10 y/o daughter and went off with what became the great drop "bendi u wanna bendi on this?" haha. its so wrong that it was even more funny. if i remember right howard even had to dump gilbert once or twice during that segment. which u know means it was probably slanderous or something if it was even too much for sirius.

i dont buy the conspiracy at all. agt is howards part time job that pays him pennies (haha the 15 mil range is a low paying gig) compared to sirius. and beth will be more than accepted with whatever she wants to do with dogs or red carpets due to the money and press she brings along with her, no matter what howard is doing, crazy or not.

the biggest loss for h101 was def bubba and ferrall. i was never majorly into them (i do still listen to bubba from time to time) but having howard as their flagship broadcaster along with a dedicated afternoon and night guy made h101 a legitimate radio station. without them its really just appealing to howard fans. and yes there are way more of them than bubba and ferrall combined but sirus needs ever sub then can get. best to cast a wide net.

The plugs certainly have changed... Today's plugs were nothing other than where to find Benji, Richard and Sal online. With Lady Gaga coming in, you'd think she'd have something to plug. It also didn't sound like Fred, or as much as it used to...sounded very pre-taped.

It would be interesting to see how much of a typical show circa 1998 to circa 2001 was sexual, stripper, or gross-out stuff. True, it's gotten a lot softer, but the E! show probably didn't help things much. Howard always said that the sex stuff would translate well to the TV show ratings...someone who never listened to the show, but only watched on TV would think it was a non-stop stripper tour.
