I'm with Howard. The problem with podcasting is that any nudnik with a microphone thinks they're the next Rush Limbaugh, O&A, Howard or any other mega-sized radio host.
Plus...whatever podcast I've listened to, it always sounds like they're not talking normally. Every word seems slower, over-enunciated, etc.
But with that said, is it just me, or is the number of hot chick podcasters/influencers insanely high? Alex Cooper was just on Seth Meyers. Holy crap though...it's like she *just* figured out her hands could move.
Don't even open your Instagram front page. It's one step below Maxim at times.

The good thing is, people with actual talent can create a following without having to sign an unfair contract with a big media company (and have to blow the CEO) or else they'll never be heard. The bad thing is, there's a zillion things to listen to and 99% of it is garbage.
Same thing happened with music. It went from "the radio is only going to play these six new bands, even though there are 100 new bands that are good" to "here are 10,000 bands that think they're good, but only 100 are actually good, if you don't want to take the time to sift through the mess and figure out which ones are actually good, listen to radio where you'll only hear the songs you've already heard a zillion times."
Of course, podcasting also allows for niche things to get coverage. I'm sure there's at least five podcasts about USC sports that LA radio would never cover, especially in the summer months. And yeah, the 99% comment is definitely true.
Do we really need a true crime podcast covering something that happened 20 years ago? Do we really need TEN true crime podcasts covering the same thing? There's a point where it definitely gets annoying.
Do we really need 10 different podcasts about the Chicago Bulls?
The band thing is also true. A rock station (FM version of Octane) is gonna play mainstream stuff, but what about an FM version of XMU or Turbo Deep Cuts?
WERS, the Emerson College radio station out of Boston, is something like XMU. But unless you're nationally syndicated, you're only reaching a few thousand people. That's why satellite/streaming radio was invented.

FM radio KILLED these two songs for me. They also killed Evenflow and Alive (Pearl Jam). I like all four, but haven't gone out of my way to listen to any of them more than twice in the last 30 years.
It's been a long time since I tuned into Lithium, for that reason.
The first time I saw Pearl Jam, they snuck The Folksmen's version of "Start Me Up" into their song "Not For You."
Eddie then said how he wasnt sure if we recognized it and how some of us might not recognize the next song "as one that wasn't raped on the radio or anything" then said if we didn't like it, they'd play another one after that.
Yeah...it's so strange that FM radio doesn't do a "deep cuts" show during a low time like Sunday afternoon or so. My local modern rock station used to have a "Local Stuff" show where it was an hour of local bands on Sunday nights.
Sunday afternoon from about 4-6 or so would be a great time to play exactly those songs they never play. "You know the bands, but you might not know the songs we play Sunday afternoons."
My band's been on about 50 FM stations thanks to this kind og programming - which was big in the 2000s/2010s but continues to die off. We've only been on during prime time on a couple big-time commercial stations and a dozen or so college stations.
