Welcome to the 696th edition of Who Am I?, the weekly game where I dish out a daily clue to a subject and you have to guess who or what it is.

Every day, the clues get easier. The winner of this week's game gets a piece of my gratitude.

This week's subject is a THING.

CLUE #1: I opened for service in the 1970s.

Well, blow me down! I think the answer is Popeyes, which began in 1972 as Chicken On The Run and later became Popeyes Chicken & Biscuits and then Popeyes Famous Fried Chicken & Biscuits. But why don't they use the apostrophe?

The 747 entered service on January 22, 1970 – and the Four Tops were going to be on flight 103 but they never boarded the plane. Since they were not on the plane, I don't see how they "almost died."

I consulted Saint Wikipedia regarding Listener's guess and learned that the Four Tops were injured in a 1978 Trailways bus crash in Georgia. I don't know when that freeway opened but Trailways was founded in 1938. The bus crash and the 747 crash are both noted in this article:
