Congratulations, Listener!
This week's subject was
The Critic, the short-lived, but critically-acclaimed animated sitcom starring
SNL alumnus Jon Lovitz as Jay Sherman, a movie critic whose catchphrase is "It stinks!" The show also dealt with Sherman's adoptive family and his tyrannical, Ted Turner-esque boss, Duke Phillips.
The show was famous for its parodies of of hit films, which were transformed into laughable bad films like "Howard Stern's End". Many real film critics appeared on the show, such as Siskel and Ebert and the recently-departed Gene Shalit.
It was created by Al Jean and Mike Reiss, former writers and showrunners of
The Simpsons. It debuted in 1994 on ABC, but was canceled due to poor ratings. Fox picked up the rest of the show's run. It was canceled after two seasons, but reappeared as an internet show in 2000.
New game next week!
