#84 Jean Knight "My Toot Toot"

That song got a lot of airplay at the time around here, because it's a Louisiana based record.

I hated it then and I still do.
I remember hearing it on my local Urban station. I posted on another forum that Denise LaSalle released the song in 1985 too. Her version peaked at #6 in the UK, but never charted here.

Here are the songs below the 100 for 5/4/85

Bubbling Under The Hot 100

#101 Klymaxx "Meeting In the Ladies Room" (entered the 100 on 5/11/85 at #89, peaked at #59, #4 R&B, #22 Dance)
#102 Con Funk Shun "Electric Lady" (peaked at this position, #4 R&B)
#103 Alexander O'Neal "Innocent" (peaked at #101, #11 R&B)
#104 B.E. Taylor Group "Reggae Rock 'N Roll" (peaked at #102)
#105 George Benson "I Just Wanna Hang Around You" (peaked at #102, #24 R&B, #7 AC)
#106 Melba Moore "Read My Lips" (peaked at #104, #12 R&B)
#107 Kim Mitchell "Go For Soda" (entered the 100 on 5/18/85 at #87, peaked at #86, #12 Rock, #22 CAN)
#108 Steve Arrington "Feel So Real" peaked at #104, #17 R&B, #5 Dance, #5 UK)
#109 Whitney Houston "You Give Good Love" (entered the 100 on 5/11/85 at #67, peaked at #3, #1 R&B, #4 AC)
#110 Atlantic Starr "Freak-A-Ristic" (entered the 100 on 5/25/85 at #90, peaked at #90, #6 R&B)

Comments:
• I hadn't heard "Electric Lady" in a very long time. Stylistically, the song is a rip-off of Cameo in the similar vein as "She's Strange".
• Poor Melba Moore was always bubbling!
• "Feel So Real" was huge overseas.
@IdRatherBeSkiing - "We have another one. A rare bubbler that made the top 10, "You Give Good Love".

Mister Aaron, I'll see you – and I'll raise you one. I, too, hate Jean Knight's My Toot Toot – and I also hate Rockin Sidney's version, which inexplicably managed to get to #19 on the country chart in August 1985. Sidney Simian was born in LeBeau, Louisiana. He released 40 singles between 1957 and 1990 and this was his only chart hit:

I agree. Maybe we could have a DRC Madness featuring the all-time worst cover songs. I will nominate Madonna's American Pie, Britney Spears' Satisfaction, Hilary Duff's My Generation, William Shatner's Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds, Blue Swede's Hooked On A Feeling and maybe a few hundred others.

Shatner's "Rocket Man" should be up there. But Madona's "American Pie" was the worst. End of contest.

Limp Bizkit's covers of George Michael's 'Faith' and The Who's 'Behind Blue Eyes' have to be ranked up there on the suck list.

That version of Hooked with the Oogah-Shakahs is a classic. And it's not very special to make a bad cover, there would be too many to list.

Good covers are more interesting to find. We used to rank them here all the time. Just search for WDIB (who did it best).
