Sidney Simian was born in LeBeau, Louisiana. He released 40 singles between 1957 and 1990 and this was his only chart hit:

I agree. Maybe we could have a DRC Madness featuring the all-time worst cover songs. I will nominate Madonna's American Pie, Britney Spears' Satisfaction, Hilary Duff's My Generation, William Shatner's Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds, Blue Swede's Hooked On A Feeling and maybe a few hundred others.

Shatner's "Rocket Man" should be up there. But Madona's "American Pie" was the worst. End of contest.
That version of Hooked with the Oogah-Shakahs is a classic. And it's not very special to make a bad cover, there would be too many to list.
Good covers are more interesting to find. We used to rank them here all the time. Just search for WDIB (who did it best).
