Max Crook, best known for co-writing Runaway with Del Shannon and playing his own invention, the Musitron (a heavily modified clavioline), on Shannon's recording, which was number one for four weeks in April-May 1961, died July 1 at age 83. Under the name Maximilian, Crook released several instrumental singles on Cub and Big Top in the late 1950s and early 1960s. He also recorded with Brian Hyland, Liberace, Jackie Wilson, Jerry Lee Lewis and others and wrote several gospel songs including He Is Risen, Help Me O Lord and Fountain Of Living Waters.
