2026/2027 NHL/AHL Season including Playoffs

We have seen both home openers. The Marlies won both. In the Marlies home opener they erupted for 4 goals in the 1st to cruise to a 5-3 win (although coming that close after being up 5-0 was concerning). They won a very chippy affair 5-4 in a shootout today in Hamilton.The first 2 periods were riddled with penalties on both sides. In the 3rd period they went for about 12 minutes without a whistle which was amazing and quite exciting. The Marlies did not play that well but were never down by more than 1. They only held one lead in the game, aside from the final one, when they pulled ahead 3-2 early in the 2nd.

It was also interesting being a part of the inaugural game of a new franchise (although this did exist elsewhere). The fans were very friendly for the most part to visiting fans. It was a 2 hour train ride to get there followed by a 15-20 minute walk. Not something we will be doing that often.
 
Tuesday night we saw the first of 2 Leaf games this year. They played the Utah Mammoth formerly Arizona Coyotes formerly Winnipeg Jets. It was a tight game but Utah prevailed 3-2. They have a killer PP and got 2 PP goals in the game against a pretty good penalty killer team.
 
We have done a couple of bus trips to Bellville with the Marlies fan club to see the Marlies play the Bellville Senators. The first bus trip was on October 17th and the second was this past Sunday. Bellville is about a 3 hour drive east of Toronto. It is chosen for the destination because it is not too long a drive and does not involve a border crossing. Bellville fans are pretty tollerant of a bunch of loud Marlies fans invading their space. We do lots of "Let's Go Marlies" chants. Some kids (Bellville fans) tried to add a "Go Sens Go" after each chant. But there were only 2-3 of them and 60 of us. We just yelled out Marlies whenever they said Sens. They kids to their credit never gave up.

We won the first game 5-4 in OT and lost the last game 4-1. Still a good time and no driving.
