DRC members – except for myself, of course – pronounce the name of the planet as "Your anus." Astronomers pronounce it as "YOOR-uh-nus." The planet is named for Ouranos (pronounced "oor-uh-NOHSS" in Greek), the Greek god of the sky and father of the Titans.

This may be true; but as someone who has been around for a while, I seem to remember that in the olden days, people said your-ANUS, and snickered. Then one day, some scientists launched a campaign to pronounce it YOOR-uh-nus. And it went over about as well as the metric system.

Oh yuh.. URINE-us is so much better than your-ANUS ;)

It's kinda like when the news stations were getting crap for saying sexual hahr-ASS-ment, so they started saying HĂR-iss-ment instead.

"Harass" rhymes with "embarrass." Have you hever heard anyone pronounce "embarrass" as "em-bare-ASS"? News anchors were wrong to change the pronunciation. This is from the Dictionary-dot-com website:

"harass , a 17th-century borrowing from French, has traditionally been pronounced in English as [har-uhs], with stress on the first syllable. A newer pronunciation, [huh-ras], has developed in North American (but not British) English and has become the more common one in the U.S., especially among younger speakers."
