They had 2 hits in Canada.
"Love is the Drug" was #3 in Canada vs #30 in USA.
"Take a Chance With Me" was #32 in Canada vs uncharted in USA.
In general we have a lot of hits that show up in the "Never make the top 40" which are indeed top 40 here. Rush for example had 7 top 10 hits including 1 number 1 hit. This number is still low IMHO. It seemed like we heard them a lot.

Wait a minute. His solo album Bête Noire was huge on the Adult Contemporary chart in 87-88. And Kiss and Tell (from that album) was the one top 40 song.

Just double checking that you saw that I posted Ferry's UK top 10 hits above. "Kiss and Tell" peaked at #41 in the UK.

Yes. You started this by saying he only had one solo top 40 (in the US), and then in the subsequent UK posts, there was no mention of his big album in the US (which included his only US top 40 song), or any mentions of that album's songs by name. And that's why I posted what I did.

Top-40 KRLA in Pasadena played Thin Line Between Love & Hate in 1971 but "Boss Radio" KHJ never did. In the last week of October 1971, the song went to number one on the "V.I.P. List" (Very Important Platters) of R&B station KGFJ. KRLA often played the song during its years as an oldies station, 1984 to 1998.
From last week's 60s countdown. They had 10 top 40s in the UK.

I have heard neither of the Solé/JT Money songs but I know both Walker Brothers songs. By the way, they were not Walkers and they were not brothers; they are John Maus, Gary Leeds and Noel Engel. Many people thought they were a British group but they were from Los Angeles. Make It Easy On Yourself is a remake of a 1962 Jerry Butler hit written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David. A live version by Dionne Warwick was a hit in 1970.

I nominate Teddy Swims (real name: Jaten Collin Dimsdale). He's released 36 singles since 2019. Only two were top-40 hits. Lose Control went to number one on the Hot 100 and the adult contemporary chart in March 2024. The Door got to #24 on the Hot 100 and #18 on the adult contemporary chart in October 2024. Ten years from now, CHR and AC stations will still be playing Lose Control. The Door will be forgotten.

What are the odds of a non-hitmaker suddenly returning to producing hits? Usually it goes the other way around. I know it happens. I remember Casey mentioning "so and so has not had a hit since 1972" but I think its rare.
Not sure what you're referring to? Are you talking about someone who has some hits, then has no hits for several years (like a decade), then starts having hits again?

All those artists were established with several hits who then went through a drought then came back.
I think the disqualification for active artists is silly. For example, by the definition of the artist still being active, we cannot count Dexy's Midnight Runners as a OHW. They may come with a second hit (ignoring that they are not OHW outside of Canada/USA). If these artists ever come with a second or third hit they can be removed.
