Oh shit he did it on purpose, fuck.

What a goddamn asshole. Send him down here dude. That guy deserves death and I don't even care if any of the people at the festival died. Doing that shit on purpose should warrant a death sentence.

I saw the headline yesterday but I didn't read it so I was hoping it was just some sort of accident.
In Canada, he will be eligible for parole after 25 years. And the time he is in custody prior to his conviction is counted as 2 days for every 1.

So no matter the crime, the worst possible punishment you can get in Canada is life with possibility of parole after 25?

And then you get to subtract all the days he served between his initial arrest and his conviction and sentencing. But you times them by two? So I assume Canada is just like America and a lot of times it can take a year or more to go from arrest to sentencing. And if he gets life with possibility in 25 then it's really life with possibility in 23.

25 years is the first degree murder conviction. That is the max. Second degree murder is 10. Technically they are both life sentences and the parole board is under no obligation to release you but they rarely refuse. The crown can apply for dangerous offender status which makes parole more difficult. But that is a separate trial after conviction.

The last dangerous offender we had (I think) was Paul Bernardo / Teal. He is a monster. If you have a strong stomach, I am sure google can give you the lowdown on what he and his then wife did. She made a deal and got 12 years, out in 8, for her testimony. After they made the deal they found video tapes which showed she was just as scummy as he was. She is a free woman somewhere. She changed her name and now lives in Quebec.

If you are held in prison without bail you get the double time if convicted. If you make bail it doesn't count at all.

I'm sure there's a fucking dateline about this or something like that. I want to look this up now.

And Canada has double Jeopardy like us I guess. Or I don't know if that even applies when you make a deal, but when you make a deal, aren't you admitting to what they're saying you did?? Like if they find out later you did other stuff they can't try you for that?

Like oh my husband was a serial killer and he forced me to be his accomplice.... You sign a plea deal saying that. But then a year later they figure out that really you were the serial killer and you were forcing your husband to be the accomplice. I don't know how that works. Even here in America it seems like you should be able to get charged for that.

I believe as long as you do not lie or make an actual fraudulent statement, then that agreement is valid. I think immunity was a part of the deal meaning if they found something else, they could not charge her. Yes we have something similar to double jeopardy (lower case I think as there is no Alex Trebek involved) where you can't be tried twice for the same crime.

He has been charged with 8 counts of first degree murder. I expect they will file 3 more shortly.

And in case anybody is wondering, all sentences are concurrent in Canada (meaning with 11 convictions of first degree murder -- parole is still possible in 25).

There is a back story of the history involved in that and since none of the Prime Ministers involved are currently serving it would be safe to share if anybody is interested.

That's crazy, so all 8 come up in 25 years at the same time. It's basically like all the sentences are served concurrently. Will he have to go in front of the board 8 times or do they group them all into 1?

And I know it's silly to talk about concurrent life sentences....but with the parole thing it's not cool. When this asshole gets convicted of all 8 murders and gets life x 8 it should be consecutive......he should only be eligible for parole after 200 years.

One parole board. They would have his history.

And don't get me off on the insanity defence. We had a guy who went nuts on a bus with a machette. chopped up a guy and hung his head out the window. He got off on insanity and is now free. He is ordered to keep taking his medication but it turns out he had an incided years before and was released with the same conditions then. Nobody forces him to take his medications so ....

I hear that man. I was talking about Reagan yesterday in a different thread and this has nothing to do with political leanings but if you shoot a fucking president I don't care if you're crazy and want to impress Jodie Foster even though she's a lesbian. You should never be allowed to experience freedom again.

Hinckley is currently a free man walking amongst us. That is not right. Also, he fucked up one dude's life forever like a secret service guy became a cripple I'm pretty sure.

And I'm not just talking about presidents. Whoever the dickhead was that shot Gabby Giffords and whoever the asshole was that shot Steve Scalise......They both should be locked up in that Colorado prison where the Boston bomber and El Chapo is for the rest of their God forsaken lives. Fucking poor Gabby Giffords is more or less retarded now and she was a goddamn congresswoman......Fuck dude, you do that to a person and you don't deserve to see outside ever again. Steve Scalise got lucky. He "just" needed a couple surgeries and he was back to being a normal dude.

He said "Excuse me..... May I remove your head? Sourry!, and Thank you!" during the process, so you know, it doesn't get much more polite than that.

The dude getting his head cut off was probably saying something like.....

"Those are are very clean slices, well done with your accuracy sir. I appreciate your attention to detail."

Right up until the dude cut through whatever part of the throat makes you not able to talk anymore.

I am not sure why, but they have only charged him with 8 counts of second degree murder. I have no idea why they think this is not premeditated.
